Not sure why people keep mentioning Benitez still. From the sounds of it the manager wont be doing the signings next season. They have other people who will be taking care of that. Can you picture Benitez accepting anything less than full control of transfers? I cant. Which is the main reason he wouldnt be here next season if he did put his hand in.

Nobody gets honeymoon periods these daysOriginally posted by danperkins View PostHe is a nice guy and has great potential but if he gets the job it's some step up and the pressure is on right from the get go! He will get no honeymoon period or forgiveness either.
Certain sections of our support are right on managers backs after the first couple of bad results

Wasn't he quoted as saying he'd take a more limited role? Even still, I know who I'd prefer putting the XI out on matchday regardless of who buys who.Originally posted by vlahka View PostNot sure why people keep mentioning Benitez still. I hope Martinez makes me eat every word but it seems more likely to fail than it does to succeed unless we invest a LOT and he hits the ground running.Vive la France

Wouldnt it be wise to actually speak with Rafa and see what he is or isnt willing to do??Originally posted by vlahka View PostNot sure why people keep mentioning Benitez still. How do you know this?Originally posted by S-RED View Postbut no one will come and players will leave; we will be left with a diame or a spearing or any other 3rd rate player you care to mention.
Yes, of course. Why wouldn't they? Would they have been happy if things hadn't changed? Would they have been happier to continue with things as they were?Do you seriously think reina, agger, skrtel, suarez will stick around???????????
I would imagine our players would be more apprehensive if AVB takes over the manager's role than if the job is offered to Martinez. This could be a master-stroke or it could be a disaster. I'd rather wait and see what happens before complaining. It was pretty obvious that Hodgson was the wrong man for the job, I think Martinez has enough about him to be a success.

We all would love Klopp or Mourinho or whoever, but they are not even remotely realistic. Rafa is not going to happen, get over it. I was strongly against getting rid of Kenny, but I've moved on. I also have moved on from Rafa. We can't get whatever manager we want, but we believe in the club and the possibility that a manager like Shankly or Dalglish, who hadn't even managed a club before, could possibly work. It's not beyond the realms of possibility. So you can sit in the stand, waiting for the chance to chant for Rafa when something goes wrong, or you can give the new manager a chance and support him for more than a couple of weeks. And we are nothing like the fans of spurs, the arse, or the chavs....Originally posted by S-RED View Postthe point is at this time he is the wrong fit for lfc; yeah the November statement is harsh, but the fans that watched football since circa 1975 expect the best. Maybe thats a bit pie in the sky in this day & age but sorry thats how it is;2nd rate is for those on the other side of stanley park

I love you. Respect for taking the time with all these utterly ****ing stupid comments about MartinezOriginally posted by BrooklynRed View PostFinding the anti-Martinez arguments to be the height of irrationality. How does Wigan, ****ing Wigan!'s performance in the table reflect Martinez's future performance with financial backing, world class players and a long term contract? It's hilarious to me that we finish 8th and the players have let Kenny down, but Martinez is responsible for every aspect of Wigan's performance on the pitch. If you gave Mario Andretti a Ford Taurus and me a Ferrari, who would win the race? Me! Am I a better driver than Mario Andretti? **** no. My point is that Roberto Martinez has as much of a chance to win with our side as anyone else because our team is soooo much better than Wigan. The fact that they are facing relegation each year are not because of the manager's tactics, it's because the economics of football are well beyond the club. They don't have the tools to compete. And yet, despite that, Martinez had them playing good football and kept them up.
If he had been managing Barca's players for the past five years, you'd think he was the greatest ever. But he's been stuck at ****ing Wigan and somehow the fact that they don't have world class players is his fault.
He is not my first choice, AVB is, but I am more than willing to give him a ****ing chance and not assume we're going to be Wigan from now on. Past performance is no indication of future results, especially given how many factors influence football results.... Players being the most important.
Maybe I need a break... This thread is doing my head in...
