The pre war names on that list are great. Jack Dumby having two go's at the job. Although John Barrow...Spanish ? No wonder he won nothing..

Swansea were languishing in League 1 when he took over. He got them playing a new style of football and both Sousa and Rogers basically carried that on.
He got Wigan playing a new style of football as well and introduced them to a new seasonal battle called the relegation dog fight.

So far then, hit at Swansea, miss at Wigan.

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

So interviews are on going, no one has been appointed, the sun is shining, the ladies of Guildford appear to have forgotten to put clothes on in the heat and the weekend is nearly upon us

            What's to be upset about?

I'm shocked how many England managers they've had. What a quality topic that'd be on Pointless

Nah, I think there's not a hope in hell and never was. I can only imagine him taking the reigns at Chelsea, Utd or City - in that order. We're too much of a risk for him without an Ogliarch or Sheikh behind us

You wouldn't want any of Hodgson's staff in charge.

                        Kenny brought in Clark.

The bootroom thing has always been unique to Liverpool. It was the exception, enabled by a unique set of individuals. It wasn't planned that way at the outset, it evolved that way because to promote from within was the best option at each of those times.

Evans was not a success imo. Less so than Houllier or Rafa, but slightly better than Souness.

The way of the world these days is that managers take their trusted backroom teams wherever they go.

Should the plan be to recruit players with an eye on promoting them through the coaching ranks in the future? That would seem to be the only way of recreating a bootroom, and there is less of a guarantee of success there than with an Academy for the youth players imo becuase there is a smaller pool of talent.

Every appointment should be based on recruiting the best available person for the job at the time. That goes for football, and life in general. If that means somebody gets a promotion, then all the better, as long as they are the best candidate.
The thing about appointments is timing

                        Evans should have followed Kenny

There wasnt much wrong with us back then and Souness if anything worsened us

I think if FSG wanted to, they could bring in Capello, Hiddink, Van Gaal and their like but kudos to them, they are going for a longer term vision

'If they're going for the long term why didn't they give Kenny another year at least?' you might ask.

Well, my take on it is that Kenny was unable to achieve any momentum with the team this season and it was too much of a worrying sign. After a good win there was always a crippling result round the corner. I think it was after the Swansea game halfway throught the season where he said 'the players needed a kick up the back side.' Unfortunately, there was no response from the team and we had a disastrous second half season.

They're on their way home after a crazy night out. The clubbing scene in Miami is off the hook man...
