I think the way people are behaving, nobody is going to give Martinez a decent chance which I think is quite sad really.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostAs for Martinez......
I've already done a long post on him and I've also done a post on why he probably shouldn't be considered. If Rafa goes to Villa I think the craziness of it all would really hit home.
I think RM will have to start very brightly to get the fans on board. The same was said of Hodgson, but the battling draw with Arsenal aside, it was a poor start.
He'll be helped in that he employs a good brand of football. That will buy him a little time.
But if we start badly, Villa get of to a flyer under Rafa, and in the 6th game or so Rafa brings Villa to Anfield and outclasses us....,. Well I'd fear for him as I could get guess what the fans reaction would be like.
Personally I'd go with Rafa, but understand the owners not going for him due to past relations. But if they aren't going with Rafa, I'd have hoped for a man of similar ilk, of what RM is not.

And you know Rafa would be happy working in this new project under a DofE and Ayre? I don't know either but I'd certainly bet against it..Originally posted by Mello View PostThe only people taking us there is our current owners. We have a world class manager practically begging to get the job that they refuse to consider.

Martinez is my first choice. I agree with FSG in bringing in a young, relatively unproven manager who plays an attractive brand of football. I feel that he has never been able to elevate Wigan to a higher level simply because of the resources and instability at that club. They have always played football be-fitting of better players and because its been so hard to hold on to the players at the end of each season he has had to constantly rebuild. Its unfortunate his situation but I think he would adapt well in a stable club with good resources and turn our fortunes around.

I would bet he would. We don't know, but fact is, our owners are so hard headed about whatever their current "plan" is that they aren't even talking to him to ask. Beyond that, if our club can only attract the likes of Martinez then we should have never sacked Kenny. They should have just put a DoF in place.Originally posted by Shanks View PostAnd you know Rafa would be happy working in this new project under a DofE and Ayre? Roberto Martinez 'offered' Liverpool job - Dave Whelan
Wigan owner Dave Whelan believes Roberto Martinez has been made an offer by Liverpool to take over as manager.
Martinez broke off from his holiday in Barbados for talks with the Reds and Whelan says he now wants his manager's future resolved by next Thursday.
"He had a meeting on Thursday with the owner of Liverpool in Miami," Whelan told BBC Sport. "I think they have made some kind of offer.
"They will speak again on Tuesday. I've said I want a decision by Thursday."
More to follow.
