****ing Whelan, he is loving being in the spotlight? Like he's a key player in the negotiations...

IF Martinez comes he will get my full support

And, IF he can snare some top European talent it would make this all seem less nightmarish.
    Modifying post.

Beyond that, if our club can only attract the likes of Martinez then we should have never sacked Kenny. They should have just put a DoF in place.

He doesn't have any pulling power. It'll be the club and the money on offer which will attract players.

David Cameron has been in touch asking Whelan if he would like to become his new spin doctor

So you are saying we shouldn't give him a chance and it was stupid to back Hodgson? Hindsight is a brilliant thing.

All we need is for Rafa to get the Aston Villa job, and then the nuclear fallout can well and truly begin.

If Van Gaal wants to get back into management why on earth don't FSG at least consider giving him the manager's job rather than the DOF role ?? His age ?

I can understand why they would be hesitant about bringing Rafa back but LVG has no baggage here and has a CV which is arguably superior to Rafa's.

I wouldn't be surprise if some of our current lot start looking for an exit. After seeing the ambition from the club.

Shame some of our supporters don't do the same.

if the owners want a young manager then its ****ing obvious why they haven't approached Rafa. Are some people thick? I'm not saying the decision to go down that route is correct but so be it. Does anyone think Rafa could work without having much of a say on transfers? do me a favour. If we had wanted a traditional 'manager' ala fergie or wenger then rafa should/would of been a very strong contender.

nothing to see now, move along............

Possibly - the English lot would stick around IMO. But perhaps Agger, Skrtel, and Reina might start to look elsewhere. Even Suarez if he doesn't think the club can match his ambitions.

League and champions league winners available for no compensation. And apparently the front runner is a man who just avoided relegation with Wigan for 2-3m.

Liverpool have declined to comment on Whelan's claims.
Martinez received permission from Whelan to speak to the Reds last week and was previously handed a deadline to sort his future of 5 June by Whelan, which the Latics owner now appears to have brought forward.

The Spaniard, who met with Liverpool's American owners Fenway Sports Group in the United States, returns from his holiday on Tuesday.
Whelan revealed: "We are having a meeting on Tuesday when he's going to put everything to me. He's very honest. He arrives back in the morning and we will get together in the afternoon."

However, Whelan insisted it is by no means certain the 38-year-old will accept the offer to take over at Anfield.
"I think Roberto has put his cards on the table and said 'If I'm going to Liverpool I want the following'," said the Wigan owner.
"Roberto has to run the football club from top to bottom. Without that I don't think he would go.

"I should not be saying how good Roberto is because I want to keep him. There's no question he's the best young manager in Europe."
