I'm posting some stuff from RAWK over in the FSG thread about Henry and Werner's ownership pre-Boston Red Sox and after their two World Series wins.

Makes for some interesting reading.

It is a high-risk situation to employ a man like Martinez but if they get it right, the people will be praising the owners for a long time to come.

For me, you can't judge if he is good enough until he is the manager. He may not be qualified but that doesn't mean to say he can't be a success. Plenty of under-qualified managers have been thrown into a role of managing a big club and been successful. Look at Roberto Di-Matteo. Having managed West Brom you can hardly say he was qualified enough to lead Chelsea to a CL final. It is a high-risk situation to employ a man like Martinez but if they get it right, the people will be praising the owners for a long time to come.

For every Pep Guardiola and AVB there is a Paul Ince, Mike Walker, Roy Hodgson etc....

Remember people in football were saying Roy would be great for us

At best Martinez is a ****ing enormous gamble

I genuinely hope I'm wrong on all levels and there is one thing you can guarantee if Martinez is appointed I certainly wont be the first one calling for his head

personally whilst I was very happy to see Uncle Woy go, i do not feel he had a fair crack at the job, he is clearly a very good manager and I think he will do very well with the English National team, i was very impressed with his Swiz team and how he had them playing.

Everybody is a gamble at this stage or better put at the stage were we are at.

Our recruitment process whether for a player or manager is always such a car crash...

Yeah totally. But that's a worry no matter what system we play. I do think that Carroll and Suarez will score more next year, but then I am an optimist.

Regardless, we definitely need another forward who can give those two some competition if they're not scoring.

They might be but we will still lack clinical touch and therefore our target should still be the same, which is to sign a more prolific goal scorer.

If we don't our goals/chances percentage will be as low (or worse) as it was last year.

I've heard too much about Ayre, far too much and if even 10% of it is true (and frankly I'd bet on the vast bulk of it being true) the man should not even be near LFC nevermind Managing Director

The main reason I don't want Martinez is because *IMO* he is not a better manager than Kenny, we could have saved a lot of time and trouble and just not sacked the king.

Martinez will not have been offered the job. He's had talks which were positive, other talks with other candidates will be taking place.

I think FSG will have made their decision either way by Tuesday. As such the deadline Whelan set Martinez that was beyond that, is no longer in play.

I think whether it be Martinez or another, it will have been decided by Wednesday.

I can't imagine him calling a press conference on the back of just an interview. As previously mentioned, I also can't imagine him announcing himself as our new manager and would be done through us first. I'd guess we'll call a press conference Tuesday morning if his decision is to come to us.

I found that a little strange too, only explanation I can think of is he will announce that he is quitting wigan.

I actually already accept the fact few days ago, that Martinez will be our next manager. He'll have my 100% support.. I really really hope he'll prove everyone wrong. YNWA!

Well all this media circus has been going on for a while now and the more im made to think about who our next manager should be i keep coming back to one man. With ruling out a couple of managers for obvious reasons.. Jose and Pep... I keep coming back to Rafa.

When you make a list of things you want from a manager he ticks more boxes than anyone. Lots of experience, proven track record, tactically astute, a lot of success in the transfer market (more than the failures), still loved by a lot of fans. You just cant look past him. Even the hardest of critics can not deny how well he done while he was here. Consistently in the champions league, winning some cups and always in the mix, that was all with the owners from hell.

I just think FSG wont go down that route after kenny. Although sentiment aside he is clearly the best person for the job.
