****ing hell. I just can't muster the enthusiasm to post cheery stuff about either Martinez or Rodgers.... Obviously I'll suport either if appointed but.... I was pretty much sure we needed to have a change this summer after our poor form in the league, but I thought we would be upgrading. Neither of these guys are fit to lace Kennys boots.

    Jeez
    Modifying post.

I like that English is his first language (I do think it helps) and that he speaks other languages also.

I can imagine him working really well under a director of football like Van Gaal. He's come full circle for me now. If I had to choose from Rogers or Martinez, I think I'd probably go for Rogers. **** me, can't quite believe what I'm saying!

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Which other languages does he speak? I also reckon it helps to have english as your first language, he speaks it very well for an Ulsterman
I was reading a post (that's linked to earlier in this thread) about him, and I'm sure it said he speaks Spanish fluently and he's currently learning German.

I definitely think it helps to speak English as your first language. Rafa said this himself. And Shaggy posted something about Bielsa feeling that making himself perfectly understood is fundemental.

He's worked closely under Mourinho in the past and cited Van Gaal as an inspiration, so I reckon he'd jumpt at the chance to work with him.

The thing is, if it was just Rogers coming in, I'd be quite worried. If we get Van Gaal in to work with him, I think that could really work well.

Surely FSG should speak to Rafa, even if just to rule him out................

          Humph. Stupid football
I'd like to think so, but i don't unfortuantely.

I still believe sacking Rafa at that time was wrong, and was a pivotal moment in the clubs future, just as when UTD stuck with Fergie, instead of dumping Rafa after his one truly bad season that was the time to show faith. just my op. (but i obviously realise there was a lot going on at that time other than managerial sackings)

The reason i mention it is that i never really expected us to be in a position to re-hire him again, not so easily anyway, and yet we seem; (i say seem, as apart from those involved noone is sure of anything regarding all this) to be ignoring the opportunity to even speak with the man.

          Anyway, we move on.

yea, Van Gaal being there for the new manager is crucial imo, he is a man with alot of connections across the continent and this will probably be important in convincing players to join the project.

To be honest, I think both of them fall under the category of young talented with premiership experience, some people beleive that Swansea FC and there current style of play have more to do with Martinez than Rodgers ..... * some dont
Just read a few things over the last week or so, plus he has achieved more than Martinez in less time with an even smaller budget. I was hugely impressed by Swansea just about every time I saw them last season...Whereas I don't really remember being impressed by Wigan at all in the last 3 seasons.

Rodgers way of playing involves high levels of fitness and high intensity pressing, training passing in tiny enclosed spaces to get players used to passing at speed in cramped areas of the field. He has failed in a couple of jobs lower down, but has seemingly learnt from his failings, traveling around europe to learn with various clubs and international set ups.

Failing in the past is only a negative point if a manager doesn't learn from it and seek solutions, Rodgers has done this and become a better manager as a result.

I have a hard time believing players will care who the DoF is. He's just a suit as far as they are concerned. The manager and his staff is who they will have to work with everyday.

This is my underlying concern as well. But hopefully it's out of ignorance of the reality of the way football clubs are run outside of the PL. I don't really know what a Director of Football does that a manager can't do footballwise or a proper CEO moneywise. I don't know or understand how a DoF can bring a style of football to a club and enforce it when he's not the one on the training ground every day. I don't know who wins in a row.

And yet I am am excited by the idea of Van Gaal being here with a young exciting coach. Even though I'd prefer Van Gaal to just be the ****in manager and have done with it. Or Rafa Overall I just want something to happen so I can start properly complaining again

Some players might some might not, personally if i was a player with no affiliation to any club and i was serious about chosing a club that i thought was going to compete at the top i'd sooner listen to a man of Van Gaals credentials than a coach whom i had not heard so much about.

Its hard to say but imo i think his reputation would benefit the club, more so his knowledge of numerous leagues in europe.
