      Hello, Im new here.

      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I know you love Downing mate but do you have to bring him into every conversation?

Brendan Rodgers takes bold option with Liverpool

                  Tony Barrett

                  Published 1 minute ago

Brendan Rodgers is set to be confirmed as Liverpool’s new manager today, having informed Swansea City that he wishes to accept the challenge of taking over one of Europe’s most famous clubs.

After receiving permission to speak to the Anfield hierarchy, Rodgers held talks with John W. Henry and Tom Werner in London yesterday and agreed a three-year contract with the principal owners. The 39-year-old then returned to Swansea to inform them of his decision to leave.

All that remains for the deal to be completed is for the clubs to agree a compensation package. Liverpool are expected to pay about £4 million to secure their new manager, two weeks after the dismissal of Kenny Dalglish.

Though disappointed at the prospect of losing Rodgers, Huw Jenkins, the Swansea chairman, insisted that he could not stand in his manager’s way. “I was contacted by Liverpool on Tuesday night,” Jenkins said. “I had a discussion with Brendan to ask his views. He expressed his wish to speak to Liverpool, which he has done today.

“Brendan has now informed us that he would like to take up their offer and we are in talks to agree compensation.

“Although we are very disappointed to lose such a talented, young British manager, we didn’t wish to stand in his way. As always at Swansea City, we want people working here who are fully committed to the task ahead.

“We shall now refocus and quickly start the process of finding his replacement to continue the great work Brendan has carried out at this football club.”

The arrival of Rodgers at Anfield will bring one uncertainty to an end, but it will also create others, most notably Liverpool’s intention to introduce a sporting director.

Rodgers is known to be unwilling to work with Louis van Gaal, the former Ajax and Barcelona coach, out of a desire to be master of his own destiny, and Liverpool must decide whether they should continue with their planned changes to the club’s structure or to water down their proposals to suit the outlook of their new manager.

Similarly, it has also brought the future of Steve Clarke into sharper perspective, little more than a fortnight after the Liverpool first-team coach offered to step down in light of Dalglish’s dismissal.

Clarke’s offer to resign was refused by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the Liverpool owner, despite Clarke informing them that he and Dalglish came as a package, and the appointment of Rodgers, with whom he worked at Chelsea, raises the prospect that the 48-year-old could yet remain.Swansea must now begin their own hunt for a manager, with Chris Hughton, of Birmingham City, and Karl Robinson, of Milton Keynes Dons, among the early contenders.

One further fear for Swansea is that Rodgers could attempt to hijack their proposed signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is still to complete his £6.8 million transfer from Hoffenheim. The midfielder had been keen to remain at the Liberty Stadium after a successful five-month loan spell, but his agreement to a permanent transfer was secured partly on the premise that Rodgers would continue as manager.

hmmmmm. Bascombe and now Barrett saying stating that Rodgers doesn't want to work under Van Gaal. I get the impression that Van Gaal is the issue not the SD role itself. I just don't think you can brush Van Gaal's dictator methods under the carpet so easily. For all his good qualities the guy is clearly a nuisance and is not easy to get along with. You only have to read some of the articles about him to know why he's got a reputation for being difficult. Txiki suits the SD role on so many levels for me.

I have to be honest and say I am considerably underwhelmed by this appointment. Of course I will be supportive of the team and not critical without reason but I can't say I'll be anticipating much for next season.

I'd rather be underwhelmed and delighted rather than excited and let down.

Let's see who he wants to bring in first. If it's Sigurdsson then I'll be delighted!

For the record I'm quite excited by the possibilities that Rodgers brings to the club.

Is there a way our transfer dealings could restore your enthusiasm? What signals should we send in the market that would get you excited? Serious question.
