Think Downing signed for Villa with a broken leg too.
Excellent mate. Hope you both have a belting one.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostI'm going. Taking my younger son to his first game since he turned LFC mental about 6 months ago, so if that is the lineup I'll be happy with that.

Find someone to replace Downing and that is a good team.Originally posted by Chazza1978 View PostScott Slater @scottslater_

It's a decent team but if you look at the remaining squad there isn't alot left:Originally posted by Mattshark View PostFind someone to replace Downing and that is a good team.
Jones, Doni, Carragher, Coates, Kelly, Wilson, Flanagan, Robinson, Henderson, Adam, Shelvey, Spearing, Cole, Suso, Sterling, Bellamy and Carroll
Numbers-wise it's ok, but Coates, Wilson, Flanagan, Robinson, Shelvey, Sterling and Suso all have very little Premiership experience.
Bellamy is almost certainly gone, Carroll will probably be sold if we can find a buyer.
A couple of injuries to experienced players and we could be in troubleThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We don't really have any goalscorers beyond the first eleven either.
Actually, we don't have many goalscorers in our strongest starting line-up.

I'd like to see the young players given a chance. If we don't do it soon I think our long term future looks very bleak.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostIt's a decent team but if you look at the remaining squad there isn't alot left:

We're relying on Suarez and Gerrard, I've not seen much of Borini but his record isn't hugely inspiring but he's young and could improve that. I actually thought Carroll would contribute a decent amount, but I doubt he'll still be here when the window closes.
We lack strikers, but we have very little goal threat from midfield as things stand. Previously we've had the likes of Maxi, Kuyt, Benayoun and even Babel, who you always felt could chip in close to 10 goals a season from midfield. Gerrard aside, I'm not confident that any of our other midfielders would get 5 goals next season. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

May be a silly question, will Agger not become cup tied if he plays and is - hopefully not -sold? or are Europa cup and Champions League treated as different European Tournaments?****ter: m4dhatter

We need to give them chances but I worry that as things stand we'll be throwing them in at the deep end, and that's not the way to do it IMO. Look what happened with Insua, he desperately needed to be taken out of the firing line but we couldn't because there was no-one else, a couple of injuries and we're putting players in that position again.Originally posted by dww View PostI'd like to see the young players given a chance. Didn't someone mention last week that this round doesn't count for that? - Is this correct?Originally posted by Doc_antonio View PostI'd be happy with that.

I think Borini will do well and grab a decent return of goals next season, but relying on a 21 year old striker is a massive risk. Suarez could well get an injury or a long-term ban again and sadly we can't rely on Gerrard lasting a season.
We need at least two or three Maxi, Bellamy, Benayoun and Babel-type players before the season starts.
