I don't actually think it is a bad call. Coates is very inconsistent, even within games. I think Rodgers style will help him and he'll over take Carragher over the season. At this stage though I think experience is a help and if we play Allen and Lucas deep then there shouldn't be too much danger of him being exposed.
I think it will be Carra at the back, unfortunately. Coates needs more games to build an understanding with the defence.
That would be a terrible decision.
He is really a liability these days.
He almost cost us a goal or two vs Hearts and I wonder how many mistakes or errors he needs to do before we realize he is not even close a player he once was.
Reina
Johnson - Skrtel - Coates- Enrique
Lucas- Allen
Gerrard- Suarez- Sterling
Borini(Carroll)
liking the look of that...
i still like the idea of gerrard coming in behind the main striker to support the attack and follow up... suarez and sterling will get by the defenders better than gerrard might [from wide] and get the ball into the danger area.
Johnson - Skrtel - Coates- Enrique
------Lucas-------- Allen -------
--Suarez--- Gerrard---- Sterling--
----------Borini(Carroll)----------
removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I'd be surprised if that's not who starts Carra was ordinary v Hearts & can hardly be expected to back up 3 days later at his age. The only question is whether BR plays Downing instead of Stirling. I think Rah will come off the bench but I do hope he gets a start.
I'm pretty positive Sterling won't start. He played a full match against Hearts and for a 17 year old that is quite something. Playing him against the champions is a big ask

Logic tells me your right but the alternative tells me to play Rah !
I'd have thought it's more sensible to pick Carragher ahead of Coates. Experience, etc.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
