I was most impressed with shelvey, he looks quicker and even won a few headers against that beast toure. Sterling was simply awesome, such a hard worker as well. Allen just takes it all in his stride, he is class. glen johnson was great too! Borini did well to come back from a mixed first half, he is kuyt mk II , less strong on the ball but way faster, I like him so far and expect to see him chip in around 10 goals this season.

If you wanted to be hyper critical, we are yet to score from open play but i prefer positivity. We will be even better when agger, Lucas and sahib come into the team!

Now that the dust has settled a little I can say that I'm very happy with that performance. It's a rough result, but we showed signs that we can really compete against quality, well organised opposition. Given the last game, the improvement was evident. I know last season our problem wasn't really the performances in big games, but against lesser opposition, but this game can give us some hope.

I thought Sterling and Shelvey did really well and it was pleasing to see a team with so many young players being able to match City. Sterling can really be a good player if he maintains his attitude, today he was a huge improvement on Downing and hopefully he can press on and build on this. Obviously he's young and he's going to have some ****ty games, but if he gets a few games and the majority of them are like this then it's safe to say he can really make a Liverpool career for himself.

I think Borini will come right, it's early days and he's been neither really here nor there but I like what I see from him tactically and he seems to have the right attitude. In all of the games he's played he's missed a chance and/or set up a clear cut chance. When the chips fall right I think things could click into place. I.e. the Suarez header against WBA when he put the cross right on his head, the 2 misses against Hearts or the one from the Sterling chance today. His level of overall performance hasn't been fantastic, but he seems to do the right things, and if he continues to do so I'm sure he'll contribute quite a number of goals and assists. Even though I haven't really been impressed with what he's done on the ball overall I think he can be a good player for us.

When you come down to it, we lost 2 goals down to poor defensive errors and played a good game overall, even though both of our goals were from set pieces, we were good value for goals scored. I'd like to think as the team plays more together and we get into the season combined with fully acclimatising to the new manager those kind of individual errors which lead to conceded goals will evaporate and become few and far between.

Lastly, I've been extremely impressed with Allen thus far, what a player he can be for us. Very expensive, but **** he has some temperament and he knows his game well. I hope Lucas' injury isn't serious, because it'd be a shame to see him out for an extended period of time. Also looking forward to seeing Sahin slot in there. This game definitely gives us a platform to build upon for next week.

I think it was Shearer on MOTD who made a good observation (a rarity, I know) about our insistence on passing when under pressure and not reverting to the old hoof clear.

It's amazing to think that only a few games into the season and with a similar squad to last year that we've completely remolded our passing game, and bar a few mistakes, are pulling it off very well.

It's a tactic that I've been using to great effect recently with Liverpool in FIFA.

What I find particularly encouraging, is how Brendan has managed to turn a glaring negative into a positive in terms of Martins, sloppy backpass. As in he did what he was supposed to do, he had the balls to do what he was supposed to do, he just did not execute properly.

And whilst last year or even previous seasons I would think ... typical ! we are cursed, now I can see we are at the start of hopefully a long Journey with Rodgers and already he is making me forget my first true LFC Manager Love, Rafa.

His signings and use of existing players is really encouraging also. Allen, Borini, Sahrin, Assaidi, Sterling. Suddenly a new team is really emerging out of nowhere one which is fluid, creative, plays on the ground, fights for possession and backs itself in the final third.

I am really looking forward to every match and cant wait till the bad ref curse is lifting ... we have been getting a very rough ride decision wise for a awfully long time now.

I agree, it's been very encouraging to see the turn-around to the first shocker of a game we had at the Hawthorns. I'm also encouraged by that little video of the LFC documentary thing, where you can see how Rodgers takes no ****. Let's hope this is the start of something magnificent and that we don't just do it against quality opposition, but we fight hard and for each other in every game. It probably won't happen overnight, but we all expect the players to play out of their skin in every game, that's the least we can expect. Results shall follow. Onwards and upwards

Thought the same myself at the time. Until he characteristically ruined it by saying something stupid. (Not "I love you.")

He expounded the merits of passing rather the hoofing in such situations, that overall it works in your favour. You retain possession rather than see the opposition come back at you more or less straight away. More chance of scoring a goal, less chance of conceding one.

BUT, said Mr Shearer, if you are winning with 10 minutes to go, then you should hoof it. Why? Either the philosophy works or it doesn't. You stick with it, otherwise you're accepting reversion to cowardice.

There was a little bit of embarrassing guff about zonal marking and rotation too. To the point where ****ing Mick McCarthy actually chirped up with something half sensible

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
