Agreed. As a left back, Downing had a good game. Not sure about him defensively against good sides, but I can sort of see how playing him there could be quite an interesting (and attacking) move in some games.

Gerrard I thought had a good game, not quite at his very best but he was very unlucky not to score after that jinking run and generally was quite dynamic in midfield. We really could do with him getting his scoring touch back though.

He'll be fine for games like today where we will dominate games and against lesser sides at home, where he'll have little defending to do, but I can't see us playing him there in away games or big games.

**** knows. I know some will say Valero and sure that might cause him to dip a bit as by all accounts he's an excellent coach but he shouldnt need Valero to stop doing **** like that regularly!
