Has he? One or two games - I don't think so. He might well do but by the same taken we could quite feasibly see a plateau or drop off in the upcoming games. It's IMO a huge ask to expect him to maintain this. He's an unknown quantity, 17 or something ridiculous, and teams will figure him out soon enough. Our mismanagement of the latter part of the transfer window now means Sterling is going to be a fixture in the matchday squads and that IMO is a bad situation and far too big an ask of a 17 year old novice. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Up front, very similar.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostHow's our squad compared to say Spurs?
They have Defoe, Adebayour and then randoms like Harry Kane.
We have Suarez, Borini, then randoms like Adam Morgan. Personally I'd take ours over theirs, can't stand either Defoe or Adebayour.
They have better attacking midfield options than us; Bale, Lennon, Sigurdsson, Dempsey & Dembele, compared to Downing, Cole, Sterling, Assaidi etc. However I'd take Allen, Lucas, Gerrard & Sahin by a mile over what they have in regular midfield.
At the back its a toss up really, I think I prefer ours but a Spurs fan would argue it. Overall I don't think the squads are far apart in terms of quality really.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

I know what you mean about being excited about giving the youngsters a chance, we have after all been talking about some players that are seemingly very highly rated, and we haven't had a youngster come though and establish himself as a first team regular for a while. The problem is most of these kids have almost no experience at all Sterling's experience at first team level before this season equated to less than a hour of football, Morgan had no experience at all. At present we have two 'experienced' strikers, one of whom Borini - only has 18 months experience and none in the Premiership. I think Borini is going to need time to adapt to the team and the English game, I think we needed at least two strikers with decent amounts of experience in the league and Borini and then the likes of Morgan. If Borini takes time to settle or hits a slump in form I think we could find ourselves in trouble.Originally posted by Reece View PostI'm actually kind of excited at the thought of having to use a number of youngsters this season. More so than had we signed a 29 year old journeyman soccer guy. (Although I did think he'd do well for us). Just look at Sterling for example. Not sure Morgan can make such an impression but you never know. Same with Yesil. So bring it on
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

AbsolutelyOriginally posted by kubrickscube View PostI suppose the door is wide open for the youngsters now, and I Much prefer the idea of a load of lads giving 100% to some overpaid half arsed journeymen who couldn't give a toss. That only really works in our favour if the young players are good though.
Luckily I think we have a few really decent youngsters. Looks like we'll get to find out though....I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Spurs are pretty light at the back aren't they? Haven't they lost Kaboul until December or something? I think they kept Dawson in the end, but they only really have him, Gallas and Vertongen don't they? Oh and Caulker. So actually it's fairly similar to ours I guess in terms of depth. I think our first choice two (Agger and Skrtel) are better than theirs (when they're not playing silly back passes
).

It is only twice a year so it might not happen for a while.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostWhy does the transfer window always have to "slam shut"? Only an idiot slams a window repeatedly, sooner or later its going to smash.
Maybe though it's a sash window and it's not weighted properly. Sometimes they stick open but when you push them they thunder down. You'd think the FA would be able to afford someone to srto it out. It sounds like a slight warp, maybe too many layers of paint...
But I'm no expert on this sort of handyman matter.Last edited by Neil Young; 01-09-12, 10:24 AM..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

My Spurs mate is raging. Think they could struggle. As my mate said "we've lost 2 of our 3 best players (Modric & VdV) and replaced them with two Fulham players". The fact they didn't land Moutinho massively undermines their transfer business this summer. Think they could be in for a tough ride.Originally posted by Reece View PostSpurs are pretty light at the back aren't they? Haven't they lost Kaboul until December or something? I'd fancy us to do alright provided we have the most incredible good fortune with injuries. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

What worries me though is in having little option but to play them we risk pressuring them too much too soon and crushing them like we did with Insua, or we play them so much while they are young we run them into the ground and cause Owen like injury problems for later in their careers (This is something that I could see particularly being a problem for someone like Sterling).Originally posted by MrMichael View PostAbsolutely

Exactly. Ideally you blood the odd youngster when you choose to, when you think the time is right. Now we will find ourselves in a situation, with injuries inevitable, where we are forced to throw them in, doubtless in pressure situations. It could quite feasibly do our young players more harm than good, long term.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostWhat worries me though is in having little option but to play them we risk pressuring them too much too soon and crushing them like we did with Insua, or we play them so much while they are young we run them into the ground and cause Owen like injury problems for later in their careers (This is something that I could see particularly being a problem for someone like Sterling). Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
