There was only one steward and totally inadequate signage so when you walked down the tunnel, and I could see the sun streaming through with the players warming up on the pitch, you had no idea you could not spread out to the sides of the terrace like at Anfield. That contributed as much to the tragedy in my opinion as the lack of police control on the day.
Nick Varley's book 'Parklife' is a general filthy book but has a whole chapter on Hillsborough. A mutual friend of his and Colon Auton died that day. Colin survival was probably owed to the fact he was an am player with Wednesday. He was at the ground twice a week for training. He had no idea about the tunnels that fed the side pens. What chance did the fans have?

Trevor Hicks' original statement. Absolutely heart breaking read
Reading the forums is distressing enough in public without reading that. Does it mention the disgusting compensation offer he was offered for his 15 year old daughter? £206... £200 for her death and a refund on her £6 match ticket?

Liverpool & Man Utd: Ferguson wants offensive chants to end...

Sir Alex Ferguson has called for Manchester United and Liverpool fans to end the tasteless chanting that has marred games between the two clubs.
Liverpool have had to endure chants from their rivals' supporters about the Hillsborough disaster.
But Liverpool fans have also been guilty of singing about Manchester United's Munich air disaster.
"You'd hope that this is a line in the sand in terms of how the fans behave with one another," Ferguson said.
The Scot, speaking at a news conference ahead of United's home game with Wigan on Saturday, added: "We are two great clubs and we should understand each other's problems in the past. Certainly the reputation of both clubs doesn't deserve it.

"Both clubs have suffered fatalities through football.
"You hope that fans do behave themselves and support their team and that will be the end of it."
Ferguson's remarks come after a damning report of the Hillsborough Independent Panel cleared Liverpool supporters of any blame relating to the 1989 tragedy, when 96 fans died, and revealed South Yorkshire Police changed statements.
Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday offered a "profound" apology to the families of those who died.
Liverpool and Manchester United meet at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday, 23 September.
It will be Liverpool's first home game since the dramatic findings relating to the Hillsborough disaster were released.
"The fact we are playing them after the findings we have been reading about in the last couple of days does bring a focus to it," Ferguson added.
On Thursday, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said he hoped the publication of the truth about the Hillsborough disaster would end the hurtful chants by "idiots".
"I speak as a human being and I don't ever like to hear anything like that, whatever club it is, that associates with other people's tragedies and death," Rodgers said.
"Unfortunately you have a very small percentage of idiots at any club who will always try to smear another club's reputation."

Whatever issues you have with him you can't argue with that. I've never been around when a Liverpool fan has started singing about Munich bit Is like to think is be brave enough to challenge even if outnumbered

A few of the lads on here might remember I confronted a group of around 8 fellas singing the Munich song outside the Brunswick pub in town. They were all moody looking blokes in their 40s and 50s but I was with my wife and daughter who was only about 14 at the time and I found it offensive and went over to tell them! Amazingly they stopped but looking back it was pretty stupid to go over on my own.

I haven't heard our fans sing Munich at Anfield for years thankfully but I heard it a couple of seasons ago after an away match at Citeh and a few times abroad. There's also two ****wits near me in the LC who always make aeroplane gestures whenever Man U are at Anfield.

However, the thing about the Mancs is that they sing their vile chants no matter who they are playing. I mean how ****ing moronic was it for them to sing "if it wasn't for the Scousers we could stand" last month at Goodison?
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.
