That's what I mean, compare LFC to say Arsenal, Man U or Chelsea.
I would say that only Barca can compare with our identity being so much more than just football.

Man Utd fans should be banned for Liverpool taunts - Joe Jordan

      By Saj Chowdhury
      BBC Sport

Supporters involved in tasteless chants at football matches should be banned for life, according to former Manchester United player Joe Jordan.

His comments came after a minority of United fans took part in anti-Liverpool taunts during the 4-0 win against Wigan, days after the report into the Hillsborough disaster was made public.

"I can't quite get my head around why people come to football matches with that first and foremost on their minds," Jordan told BBC Sport.

      "You have to eliminate it."

The former striker added that anyone found guilty of tasteless chants on Saturday should be "banned for life".

United released a statement after the Premier League match against Wigan saying they "deplored" the chants from fans at Old Trafford.

Earlier in the week, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson called for both United and Liverpool fans to end the terrace barbs against each other.

The teams meet next Sunday at Anfield.

"What they come out with has nothing to do with a football match," added former Scotland international Jordan.

"It's not getting at the players, it's getting at families. Neither they nor I can imagine the pain those people have gone through."

Jordan said he could not recall during his time as a United player ever hearing Liverpool fans chant about the Munich air disaster of 1958 that killed members of Manchester United's squad and coaching staff.

He added it was time to stamp out such behaviour.

"It's something that shouldn't really be happening," said Jordan, who played for United between 1978 and 1981.

It's probably part of what made me close to the club. Truth be told I've gone off football big time lately. It's money grabbing bull**** that just pisses me off. But I can't stop loving the club.

I just hope and pray our fans act with dignity when we play Utd and refrain from any abusive chants or booing.

He guys, this is a longshot but does anybody remember (if i actually read here) of an account from an actual forum member or an article about a guy who went to Hillsborough having been to Heysel and actually mentioned walking down towards the pens before turning away after feeling that it seemed very similar to Heysel... I wouldn't mind reading it again

Having read all these articles, the repeated feeling I get is of wishing they could have just got the oxygen out to them... Even though I wasn't around when it happened and have only known about what happened at Hillsborough for a few years it is still so shocking and sad...

            JFT96...

Also, can people link me to some details about Heysel, I feel like I don't know enough about it and I know people who lost family at the game so I would really like to know more about it.

I stupidly replied in a so-called footy banter topic on Facebook and got it thrown back at me about our fans singing Munich and making aeroplane gestures, both of which I deplore as much as them singing about Hillsborough or Heysel. Unfortunately both sides have a minority of mindless morons who think it's big and clever to score points off their rivals by singing about innocent deaths. It certainly doesn't help when a video of some members of our the self-proclaimed Liverpool fans' union SOS singing the Munich song at their AGM a few years ago is regularly used as 'evidence' that we're just as bad as they are.

The book "From Where I Was Standing" is an excellent account of the Heysel disaster

For that reason alone SOS should have disbanded.

Hey mate, I've not read them for ages, because they are pretty harrowing - but there are some first person accounts here.

                            Thank you.

In regards to the "LFC Fans" who were there...

Was it true many were members of other English Club Firms.

Also, is there any opinions of it people here would like to share? Its harder to understand because there is far less information and it is far less spoken about.

I would really like to be able to understand it like I do Hillsborough.

If it was the fault of the LFC contingent, then could the poor state of the stadium really be to blame, or would fans have simply been wounded/fatally hurt from crowd crush rather than a falling wall.

Not sure if this is the right place to be asking all this, but I would really appreciate any info you guys have. I really want to know everything there is to know about my club, even if it is as harrowing as this.
