Plus, I really wouldn't have Neville in there, even without bias. He has got where he is through determination and industriousness (much like Jamie in some ways) not through having massive amounts of talent IMO. I'd have Salgado, Zambrotta (when he plays there) or Alves for a start over him anyday

I'm not convinced Terry is World class. Sure he looks good for Chelsea but all too often for England when he has no Makelele to protect him, he's looked pretty average.

As for Neville, he a cock of a bloke but he's a tremendous RB. You can't play so long for Ferguson if you're not upto it. For me he's at least as good as Salgado or Zambrotta.

Fair cop. Zambrotta would be top of my list, I seem to remember him being Juve's best player when we had them at Anfield in the CL

I'd expand on that by saying they have to perform at that level for at least 3 to 4 years to be considered as such.

A good way of determining a players repective value/ability is to imagine if all the players in the world were avalible, and you and a mate were picking 11 a side - like you used to do in the park or PE - in that case who would you pick, or get picked first, second, third, etc?

Of course another way is to take any player - lets say Gerrard - is there any other player in his position who you'd swap him for?

It's about finding the right balance, no team in the history of the game has had 11 world class players together in the same team.

Right now we've got Gerrard, who IMO is undoubtedly world class. Then we've got top class players who are consistent, like Kuyt, Crouch, Alonso and in the case of Carragher a player who's made himself a great player, even though he hasn't got the ability of other flash ***** like Ferdinand. And would anyone swap Jamie for Rio straight up?, of course not you'd pick Jamie everytime.

As for the rest of our squad?, Sissoko's a vital player and very good at what he does, but will he ever have world class ability?

One thing I am certain of is that Dan Aggers going to be rock on which our defence is built on for the next decade.

Fair comment on Agger mate. He's the best defensive prospect we've had for a long time. He appears to pretty much have everything you could want in a CB, pace, aerial ability, excellent positonal sense & good distribution. All that & so young too.

              Therefore:

Gerrard is the only player I would consider World Class at Liverpool.

Arsenal have Henry, and possibly Gallas that are WC.

Man United have Rooney and Ronaldo.

Chelsea have Terry and Cech. Shevchenko, A.Cole and Makalele were WC, but maybe just past their best now.

I don't think that are any more WC players in the league after those mentioned above - although there are a few with the potential to be WC in the future, Lennon, Van Persie, Richards, Carson (perhaps)...
              good post

              Gerrard end of.

The better way would be who would get in a world 11 at the moment. Only SG, Henry, Rooney, Terry, and Cech from the PL.

I'm sorry guys (and I'll probably get slaughtered for this comment), but I believe you're forgetting someone. If we are talking about people "in their prime" who are still playing today (and he's on the books so he IS playing), then you cannot forget Kewell...

When he joined us in 2003 he was arguably the best left winger in the prem along with Giggs. His injuries have been many, but you cannot question his class. He was a stellar performer at both club and international level. And contrary to popular belief, his career is not over yet.

Kewell has a footballing brain above and beyond that of the average A class professional. On his day is able to create something outta nothing.

I would take a fit Harry Kewell over any other lefty in the Prem (maybe the world), and I believe that along with Gerrard, Kewell can be considered for that elite "world class" tag.

He'll be back early next year, and with careful nurturing and a bit of luck, he will give us at least 3 more years of World Class quality.

I know this is going to get laughed at, but I agree with you to an extent. The only problem is he's never really shown his 'world class ability' for LFC, and this is where the claim falls down. He's got a lot of work to do to restore his credibility when he eventually comes back, and I really hope he does it.

                      He'll be back.

He's not finished yet. The good thing about him is that you can see that he WANTS to play. He is passionate about his club. I have been watching interviews he did here in Aus with SBS and when they ask him stupid questions about if he'll ever come and play here he says all he wants to do is put on his red shirt, and you can see its the god honest truth.

He (especially last year), put in some fantastic performances considering he was running on only 3 cylinders.

                      Have some faith.

Liverpool with Harry Kewell is stronger than Liverpool without Harry Kewell.
