I think the problem was that Rodgers played him out of his preferred position regularly and too many times he was subbed very early in the second half so his confidence is shaken.

I too like his movement but his technique is average at best but I hope he'll turn out to be a decent signing.

I just don't see where people on this site are getting their optimism from, I just don't get this Rodgers thing, boring play not a lot of wins out of a cup already.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

        We were mediocre under Hodgson..

Under Dalglish we were good but not good enough to challenge top teams not to mention the millions of money spent.

Brendan Rodgers is young and sometimes naive. But since Rafa he is the best tactical manager for LFC. Not to mention that he only spent a fraction of Dalglish.

No we are not mediocre. We play good entertaining football. Had the refs made correct decision we have some 5 or 6 points more, challenging for 4th place!!!

Sorry but thats how I see it

As for Gerrard perhaps I misexplained it, hes not a holding player, he has in the past relied on his pace to get him out of trouble when hes invariably been out of position. He cant do that now, equally he had a decent motor which allowed him to get around the pitch to be all-action and again he cant do that now
Ok, I wasn't intending to suggest you had an agenda against Rodgers or anything else but sorry, I can see my phrasing was ambiguous. I was suggesting you're taking overemphasising the negatives and undervaluing the positives, some of which I suggested.

I do think the main thing is that we're playing better football. How few good chances we make is a concern but there is as much reason to believe that will change with time (and a new forward or two) as that it won't.

My view is we lack the data to make a reasonable guess as to how things will work out. For every negative interpretation, there's a positive alternative and it's impossible to say which is more reasonable and more likely to be borne out by future events. For example, the criticism is he's never won anything...but then again he's a very young manager and this is the first time he's been at a club with a history of winning trophies. Or, we've got fewer points than we had under Hodgson at this point...but then again we're playing much better football and aren't stuck with a system that last saw success when it revolutionised the powerhouse of world football that was 1970s Scandinavia. We probably won't win a trophy this year...but then again last year there seemed to be absolutely no design to our play, it was incredibly inconsistent and tactically naive with no prospect of development (as far as I could see).

Results aren't great. We constantly look vulnerable. We don't make enough really good chances. We rely massively on one player. We're in the bottom half.

I can understand people feeling like we're going nowhere and therefore that Rodgers might well not have what it takes. But what's the alternative? Change manager again? Even if we got a good one, there'd be more upheaval and chances are we'd simply be swapping one set of problems for another.

The players seem happy and so far Rodgers is keeping the ones we all rate and getting rid of most of the ones we don't. He hasn't yet signed a Josemi or a Carroll, let alone a Ferri or a PFK.

I really think we have to bite our tongues, sit it out and see what happens.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Well tbf it is certainly an arguable point, there was a point when I thought he was almost touting him out for sale and trying to force some kind of auction. Thank **** he has stayed, he is our lynchpin at the back and we would be ****ed without him.

In the latter part of last season we were relegation standard - being outplayed by teams that I hadn't even noticed before. That is the base from which Rogers is having to build.

At the moment we ARE mid-table standard, but that IS progress on relegation standard. If we can insert a goalscoring striker into the team without unbalancing it, I suspect the second half of the season we will play like a top 5 team and will probably finish around 6th to 8th but with a much younger side than hitherto. That would be further progress.

Then we need to build on that next season.

For me, Rodgers has implemented an exciting vision and we are starting to see it take shape. What we currently lack are the players to make it work properly.

Now I can see people's criticisms of Rodgers. If he was that great a manager he would have been able to implement a system that would have worked in the short term until he had suitable players at his disposal. I agree in that respect. He is not a genius. He is not experienced. Had LFC been a top of the table club, he would not have been a suitable appointment.

But for where we are as a club, he is a good appointment. Because whilst he may lack the knowledge and know how to keep a team ticking over short term, I think his long term plan will stand up to anything in the league. It will have bumps along the way because of his short comings, but once we reach their we'll be all the better for it.

What a ****ing tackle son, wonderful challenge and probably even now one of the best challenges I've ever seen.

I mean, Moores and Parry! then H&G and purslow! Come on, BR has it soooo easy as far as ownership go's. imo.

                                That's a good thing.
