The little bit of perspective 'Glass is Half Full' Thread

Unfortunately due to a bloody tree blocking my satellite dish I did not get to see the match last night but by a lot of accounts, we played well, again, dominated possession but perhaps did not take our chances. Hey I did not see the game, but we got beat by Spurs, we have been getting beat by Spurs for years, even when we won 5 trophies in one Season, we still got beat by Spurs. So getting beaten by Spurs is not the end of the world.

People bang on about the team this, the team that, I think a lot of people are losing sight of the situation we find ourselves in and the team which out there on the pitch week in week out.

First things first, Liverpool FC has played more games than any team in the Lg at this point in the proceedings. Currently we are playing every 3 games and its widely accepted we have probably the weakest squad amongst the top flight teams.

We are playing with a new manager, who is implementing a new style of play, a technically challenging style of play. With players who have not played a lot of football together.

We are witnessing a lot of our Senior players being either shipped on, or rapidly losing form, fitness etc. We are also playing more young players than any other team in the league or any team since Wengers Babies team a 3 or 3 seasons ago.

We have not had a settled back four for most of the season, we have lost one of our most influential players in Lucas who is at the center of all things good that we have done in recent years and we are surrounded by teams who are strengthening all the time.

But despite all of that, we have undoubtedly developed a new fresh style of play. We have developed some truly exciting talent in Sterling and Wisdom. Despite what people have said about our lack of goals we still have the top striker in the LG and it looks like we are all set for a new 60k seater Anfield.

I suspect we will be signing players in Jan, and its very plausible that we could be within sniffing distance of 4th by Jan 1 st with the run in of games we have .

2nd half of the season we have Lucas back, a new striker, the team has had more time to adapt to the system and onwards we march.

We've been through a lot in recent years, all of that crap takes it tole. We are just 3 months into the season, there is a lot of football to be played.
The summer comes we strengthen and we move forward.

This will be a 3 year journey rather than a 3 month sprint, settle in, buckle up and just enjoy the ride

I pretty much agree with the OP. For some reason our current league position and indifferent form just isn't distressing me right now the way it has in the last 3 seasons, probably because I had pretty low expectations of what this season would involve and, with the promotion of so many young players into our matchday squad, am quite happy to see this as a transitional season.

I think a lot of our fans have really struggled to adjust their expectations to something more realistic given our squad, and indeed that a certain amount of over-rating of our existing players has been going on. I frequently see people posting that we have five or six top class senior players, and so this team should be doing much better. I don't think I agree - is it possible that these guys have been underperforming basically for 4 seasons now, or maybe is it that we think some of them are better than they actually are?

We quite obviously have some serious issues within the squad... a total lack of goals from anyone other than Suarez first and foremost, along with the continued presence of certain players that should never have been brought to the club, and we have a manager who has some very good ideas but is also relatively inexperienced and not finding this season easy going. It never was going to be though, and I really think this is as low as we will go IF we have patience and allow the new regieme proper time to learn and grow. Personally I'm quite happy to do that, we've a run now of games through to the new year where we could and should pick up a few victories and hopefully we'll see our league position improve somewhat in the second half of the season. Things aren't ideal, but they also could be worse and we'll be ok in the end, I still have faith in that.

i agree. the signs are promising.
results wise we haven't improved but i think we're playing our best football since the start of the 09/10 season bar the first 3 month under kenny.
last night when chasing the game we didn't rush things but played it cool, kept possession and created more than enough chances to win the game. it's promising and we'll get there over time and we'll be a great team to watch and hopefully a successful one too. that said, we just cannot afford to make expensive mistakes in the transfer market anymore. hopefully the new scouting team are worth their salt.

We have a nice run of fixtures now. Results need to improve or people will, I believe, start to lose a little faith in Rodgers.

Thankfully, I think we will now start to deliver and I think the 7 point gap to Spurs will close by the 19 game mark.

By the end of January I think we'll not be far of 4th place and looking like a team that is capable of putting the ball in the net.

I'm not giving up on this season just yet.
                        Forwards.......

A thread talking about being positive and then everyone starts mentioning 4th.
I completely agree with Nicey's post except that top 6 should be our aim.

We're a top 8 side that have blown ridiculous amounts of money on bang average signings in the last 2 seasons or so.
Rodgers is now managing whilst trying to balance the books and cut the wage bill accordingly.

Great thread imo, unrealistic to be considering 4th.

You could well imagine him telling FSG, listen guys we have spunked 70 plus million Pounds on 3 potentially average at best players, they could well turn out to be excellent but realistically you are going to take a bath on these signings.

That money has to be recouped somewhere, hes already added value to the squad with signings of Allen, bringing on Sterling, bringing on Wisdom, developing Jonjo.

I'm happy with how things are going. How the club is handling its business. How Rodgers goes about his business. I would just like to see goals coming from the team. Brendan knows this himself, sure he spoke recently about having to get minmuim of 70 goals in the lg per season to get into the top 4, even if Louis gets 20 plus goals, that still leaves another 50 from the rest of the team and we be lucky to get 12 at the current rate. But the key fact is he knows this and as long as he focuses on bringing goals into the team, we will do just fine. I'm enjoying this new chapter in Liverpools history ...

My only gripe is we seriously get ****ed week in week out by referees and lines man ... I can honestly say in the last 2 ****ing years i can only think of one decision that we ended up on the postive side off, that being the Suarez deflection which lead to a thrown in and brilliant goal

All marginal offsides no, All onside goals, offside, no ****ing penalties, ever, and red cards

Yep, the ref played a big part again yesterday. Had it gone our way, we would have won with 2 penalties.
                              Are we winning?
