I don’t know where the confidence in Sturidge comes from mate cause I have zero expectations when I see him play for us now. He’s sadly lost all form & is a shadow of his former self. I’d love to have the Sturidge of old but I have more faith in Solanke cause he looks hungry & gives a damn.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

He needs games like every player (same goes for Solanke & Ings) but Firmino has been so good he can't get a look in. Sturridge may have lost a yard but that touch and his instinct don't suddenly just disappear.Originally posted by SB View PostI don’t know where the confidence in Sturidge comes from mate cause I have zero expectations when I see him play for us now. Sturridge probably needs a new club but until we get a proper replacement, it wouldn't make sense selling him now imo. I even think we should loan him first before selling, as if he starts scoring again price cold increase.

Yeah loaning him for 3 months could make sense if we can do that & recall him if we need him?Originally posted by danperkins View PostHe needs games like every player (same goes for Solanke & Ings) but Firmino has been so good he can't get a look in. I just feel he doesn't suit us any more and at the same time his powers have been reduced. A run of games somewhere where they look to play a forward in and that might be shown to be wrong but it won't happen with us. He's a good enough player, with enough good will in reserve, that I would like to see him paying somewhere.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostIt's mad, I loved Sturridge. A real serious Rolls Royce of a centre forward at his peak. He had the lot. And yet, especially after today, it really feels like he's yesterday's news.
I feel like Shelvey at Newcastle would look for balls to him a lot - so that along with the Rafa connection means I'm hoping for that rumoured loan to come off."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I agree, doesn't fit our game style. We are very reliant on having our front men doing a lot of pressing and taking initiative to do so. Firmino, Salah, Lallana and Mane are all great at this, and Coutinho were also pretty good at it (partly a reason why Barca went for him I reckon)!Originally posted by dww View PostI just feel he doesn't suit us any more and at the same time his powers have been reduced. Sturridge isn't defensively aware enough, and have lost part of hi mojo at the same time, so letting him go makes sense.
That said, for 2 seasons he was the bomb!

Back training I think.
Still one of the best strikers I've ever seen here, though I feel history won't be kind to him as it was short lived and Suarez was here at the same time. It's really **** how his body has let him down. Defo the time to upgrade if possible though, he just looks so out of place when he plays now, even the games he scored in earlier in the season he looked poor and if we had a big game and Firmino was out I don't think the manager would even trust him to play.

I think his injuries came a t a terrible time for him in terms of the changes that were occuring with our style of play.
He has amazing skills, and on form is one of the best finishers around. He just doesnt suit the style of play Klopp has implemented and is nowhere near the grafter Firmino is. Sturridge has an old school CF mentality, he wants to score goals. Our gameplan requires a more sacrificial style of centre forward play.Modifying post.
