Yeah I agree. But he's going to be pissed as will a lot of LFC fans that he decided to play 90 mins of a pointless game then wasn't fit to train for an important game for us

It's this Club v Country again, but Sturridge is wrong for me

To be fair to Daniel, can't the same thing be said of Gerrard?

gerrard was well of the pace - playing through an injury with pain killing injections for a meaningless england friendly obviously didn't help.

The funny thing is - Sturridge might have done his world cup chances more harm than good - cause he was ****e for england.

He'd be better concentrating on club form - staying fit, playing regularly and scoring goals for liverpool would be more beneficial??
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

I made the point that he shouldn't have been taking injections to play. Some think he has the right to choose after the service he has given the club. They have a point

But I think Rodgers will say that Gerrard is still able to train even having done that, whereas Sturridge wasn't. Bound to annoy him

Made that same point. If he carries on scoring in the league, he'll be in the England squad regardless of no. of friendlies played

It's not a case of being in the squad it's a matter of who is going to start up front in Brazil.

Did England have as many friendlies in the 70s - 90s? Did they interrupt the league programme as much?

Curious to know as I wasn't really into football back then.

The English striker with 20+ premiership goals this season will start up front with Rooney.

                  Welbeck?
                  One tit for another.

i reckon he has spoke out about sturridge and although he hasnt said the same to gerald he knows the same applies to him too.

brendan being a little subtle and allowing gerald to join the dots for himself.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I think the interview about quitting the England team after 2014 World Cup to maintain club career was probably a coded message for Gerrard

I think the issue is that Sturridge wan't fit to train. Gerrard was, and therefore was spared from the bullet.

I don't think Brendan has the cojones to go against gerrard in the press

It's Bodgson he should be ranting against and the **** ups at the FA.

Gerrard is England captain so the context is different.

Can't give you a scientific answer but I think they probably did.

The difference in those days (IMO) was that playing for your country was the pinnacle of most players career (and earned them a good few bob) whereas now it's seen as something of a chore - at least by the clubs.
