We don't have many lads good at them because as we've seen in many games, they lack bottle and that's the biggest part of penalty taking in my mind.
This seems to be the issue with this bunch of players as a whole ... they lack bottle .. they choke ... they win was it does not matter and lose when it does, its infuriating ... the most dangerous move against us came from our own defender .. who managed to weaken us, damage himself and another one of our players in one spectacularly stupid move

Hendo .. whilst I like him, always have, is not captain of Liverpool Football Club material .. Vice Captain is about his level, people say it does not matter ... tell that to City fans ... Kompany plays they tend to win .. he does not its the lose more ... I am looking forward to the summer and some recrafting of this squad ... I dont think major changes are needed just injections of quality in the right places could increase everybody's game from a steady 7 to a really strong 8 / 9 consistently

Sturridge put a shift and and dropped into midfield to try and make things happen, he called for the ball numerous times and started a nice move through the middle which Milner eventually scuffed wide.

He'll get sharper with time, he's been out for 18 months for goodness sakes!

Thought he did ok yesterday, not sure how he managed 120 minutes.

Him and Firmino are not on the same page at the moment though.

I'd give him the week off though to recover and start Origi in the league game against City.

Yeah our problems are certainly not a returning to fitness Daniel Sturridge, that's for sure. Or his penalty reticence/ability.

FWIW, i thought City's penalties were fantastic, especially considering Mig has went the right way every time.

Aguero's penalty was unsavable, love those as much as high in the top corner ones and the cheeky Can one.

I thought sturridge was good yesterday ... and I am ok with him not taking a peno .. we just did not get the ball to him enough .. City played well and they edged it

To be fair, they were all excellent penalties (bar the first one from Fernandinho). Mig would have saved a couple of them had they been a few inches away from the corners.

Coutinho's pen was dire, Lucas was middle of nowhere - neither high nor low, Lallana's was struck well but decent save by Caballero. Can's was risky as hell for a first pen... but great disguise.

Sturridge had cramped up so there was no way he was going to take one. Henderson had another really poor game and I doubt he would have fared any better.

At the end of the day, we did well to take them to pens but we let ourselves down with the finishing. City could have been home and hosed by 70 mins if Sterling was a half decent finisher.

Begrudgingly accepting we were second best yesterday - the game didn't really open up until midway through the second half. We faded rapidly from the start after 10 mins of high lines and pressing, we faded quickly and let them get into the game and grow in confidence. Sakho's injury also wouldn't have helped matters.

Go again with a game on Weds against City and then get ourselves mentally right for United in the Europa League. If we can get a good first leg scoreline, we could emerge successful but the way United are playing and confidence building, this is also going to be a tough one.

He wasn't good. He was OK, but he was really frustrating in the final 3rd. So from that perspective he was lacking. If he was a tad more clinical he would have scored or even had a shot on target.

Yeah fair enough but I dont think he was the reason we lost .. thought Firmino went missing .. Hendo has another so so performance ... since his foot injury he is half the player he used to be .. it was just alright all over the park ... I think credit has to go t City because I think they set up in such a way to neutralize much of our game

We lost to City in a cup final .. it can happen ... Losing to United in Europe .. cannot happen

He's class. Him ánd Coutinho are sooooo much better than our other players. We're lucky to have him. If there's anyone to blame it's in a different thread.

Don't quite understand the criticism of Sturridge yesterday.
No he wasn't amazing but he was better and more involved than either Firmino or Coutinho who both seem immune to criticism.

Coutinho has an easy through ball 5 mins in, tries the no look pass and ****s it up, yes he scored our goal but who made it?
Sturridge with the composure to play a great ball across the 6 yard box with his weaker foot and Lallana for busting a gut to get into the 6 yard box.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Sturridge is awesome ... we just need him fit .. it really is that simple ... the internet takes on a life of its own when there is gaps in information and it very rarely rounds upwards .. hes back .. he is playing well .. everyone is a winner
