Starting to bore myself now but he had 7 starts last season off the back of two injury prone seasons. Last year was his last chance to prove himself as a first team player but that didn't happen.

Possible we simply haven't had a bid for him or even interest anywhere near the 30m it would take to let him go and I can understand that. I reckon we'll probably let his contract run out and he can play a similar bit part role during that time, if we can't offload next summer.

When we've sorted other priorities in the team out we probably will revisit the striker position. Even if that's next year we'll be in a clearer position with Origi, Ings and maybe even Woodburn as well. Also it is clear Klopp likes Firmino in that false nine role anyway so there are at least options.

Simply can't rely on Sturridge. If hes able to contribute this coming season then it's a bonus.

I'd like to see a new striker as Ings, Sturridge and Original inspire zero confidence.

You can't state his attitude is questionable nor he doesn't have the 'fight', whatever that means, with any degree of certainty

He's obviously injured far too often, but he's a footballer. I very much doubt that he'd not play unless there was a valid reason.

I'll grant you the pace thing. He looked much quicker and sharper in previous seasons

If he's not sold, it's because we can't replace him for similar money and because the club think his injuries are behind him

I will retract this statement when he's sold or retires
I was thinking about this the other day - he's an odd one in that he still seems to have the same burst of pace when he wants/needs it but doesn't seem to zip around the pitch the way he used to. If he can get fit for a stretch it will be interesting to see if it is just a sharpness issue after a long time with injuries.

He's still effective though. Played 775 league mins last year (equlilivant to 8 games) and was involved in 8 goals (3 G, 5 A). Also scored 4 in 4 in league cup.

(Tried to embed Mane's Leicester goal, but didn't work. )

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

              Cheers Bender.

Youtube blocked in work, so trying to C&P link without opening it proved more troublesome than I thought.

              Was a lovely goal.

I think that the 'rolling of the eyes' is more out of frustration. Klopp has given Sturridge game time when he has been fit.

I remember in one press conference Klopp made some kind of comment about playing through the pain.

Maybe Klopp feels that sometimes the injuries Sturridge has are little niggly things that he should play through but doesn't.

Unless we get a really good offer or have an opportunity to replace him with someone just as clinical I don't think we will sell him.

A fit Sturridge is probably a £50m plus player in today's market. He's not easy to replace.

It's also daft to take any facial movements / throwaway comments as any indication that Klopp thinks he's making his injuries up, or whatever similar accusation is being levelled

He might well think that Sturridge needs to man up, but what one person thinks of as being too severe to risk further damage cannot conceivably be the same as anothers

Still better than our other strikers.

Then let's sign a better one. Goalkeeper and striker are key in this league and it appears we aren't signing either. Both those positions are the difference between draws and wins.

How many 'better' ones would be happy to come in and play second fiddle to Firminho?

I'd rather we signed someone better than firmino. I like him but he isn't clinical. He's not known for being a number 9. I get he's integral to our style I just think by playing our way we will inevitably come up short at times.

But we'd miss out on aspects of his game that bring out the best in others.

He is a genuine team player rather than an 'in it for himself' striker and I like that. 15 league goals a season is acceptable for me if he facilitates 15 goals each from Coutinho, Mane and Salah.

At times he was sublime at others he was total gash. I just don't see the consistency but now the drink driving stuff has passed he may well do it this year. I agree re getting 15 plus out of the others but it's a big ask. For me he likes to drop deep and is better getting more involved. That can leave us light up top.
