In his prime that would have been true. But he is past his prime and being fully fit won't give him back his pace etc.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostHe's looking lean and fit to be fair and he deserves the chance and let's hope he can stay fit as there's no doubt a fully fit Sturridge is one of the best around.

He is 28....in his prime right now. I would take a gamble on him as back up this season ahead of the sub standard Solanke or IngsOriginally posted by Paul12 View PostIn his prime that would have been true. If we play him deeper there is far less reliance on the kind of explosive sprints necessary when playing off the last man. It could enable him to manage his body through.
I think he has the touch, technique, creativity and vision to make an impact in a deeper role. But it's a big risk for us to rely on him.

I agree its a risk, but I think Klopp has earnt that. I would prefer if we signed a quality replacement for Coutinho.
We ran out of midfielders this season, they were on their last legs in the final. We lost Can and The Ox and bought in two players. Hopefully we wont get as many injuries, but Milners legs may go. Can Shaq play centrally? In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

It's a risk worth taking, a fit Studge could be an £80m player... I think Big Shaq can play central.Originally posted by Charly View PostI agree its a risk, but I think Klopp has earnt that. I would prefer if we signed a quality replacement for Coutinho.

What do you mean play him deeper? We aren't going to play him in a midfield 3 and our usual number 9 drops deep anyway and doesn't play on the last shoulder of the defender. Surely he'll just be playing where he always plays?Originally posted by Patricks_Berger View PostIf we play him deeper there is far less reliance on the kind of explosive sprints necessary when playing off the last man. if we do play studge as a deeper 9 then the main difference will be he will be slotting the ball around but he wont be taking part in any pressing.Originally posted by RedReet View PostWhat do you mean play him deeper? just not sure how it'll work against proper teams outside of pre-season friendlies.
i reckon he's still on the 'come and buy me' list despite all the press chit chat.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
