They pressed our defense and harrassed us into hoofing the ball. We needed cool heads to pass our way around them. We couldn't and played into their hands. As soon as Stevie came in we started to click and pass it. So I think experience and character counts as much as strength.

I don't want us to resort to playing with a target man and destructive midfielders if it's not in Rodgers' philosophy. We'll get there.
    Are we winning?

He's a bit of a liability tbh. A good defender overall, but he has his moments of braindead

I personally think you are deluding yourself

Rodgers system and tactics are easily shut down, its going to take a radical shift in his ideals and transfer policy to change that

Football is about more than just tippy-tapping the ball around, its got to also be married with hardwork, pressing and aggression. We dont have anywhere near enough of that in our current side

          Todays team:
Jones. Probably the worst keeper we have ever had.
          Robinson. Poison today.
Wisdom. Was doing better than Robinson and Coates but hauled off.
Coates. Terrible today and always a liability
Skertel. Average today but not at fault for goals
Allen. Terrible player and shocking again today
Suarez. Good goal but poor performance by his standards
Sterling. Has only had one good game all season. Refuses to run at a player and take them on.
Downing. 3 passes in 15 seconds to the opposition sums him up,
Henderson. Headless chicken. Outplayed and outclassed by Oldham midfield
Sturridge. Not great today but a good signing
          Borini. No comment required
          Gerard. Made a difference
Shelvey. Way better option than Downing and Henderson
Rogers. Clock ticking unless top quality players come in
A bit of a rant, and probably a bit much tbh. Many players had an off day yesterday, but hardly something to judge them on enterily.

And we were in to domestic cup finals last season, winning one Hardly saved the managers job though, so hard to blame the manager for making some changes in the cup games.

I am not deluding myself it's far ****ing too early to say. And I hope Rodgers stick to his principles instead of going back to conforming to the idea that you can't play like this in England.

            It's not progressive.

Dickov having talks with the chairman today. Might be getting the chop due to the ****e league performance.

Not a bad way to go out is it?

My main disappointment today is the fact that we went out despite it's one of our more realistic chances of getting in to Europe next season. We might not manage it in the league, although still an option of course, and EL have a long way to the final with many good teams in it now. Our players really should have been more up for it, and it was a let down going out to Oldham.

Robinson and Jones both cost goals and we had plenty of missers up front by almost every player ahead of the defence. Good pressure in the last ~20 min. but that was just to late.

If it was working and wasnt easily countered we wouldnt be getting beat by a team struggling in the bottom of League 1

Dress it up how you want but it isnt progressive

Do you really think that Oldham are better than us? Can it not possibly be a case of us just not being at the races and Oldham taking advantage of the situation?

It's an FA Cup, not an ordinary league game. Usual one off 'play above their level' from Oldham which has made the cup famous over the years. We happened to have been in a bad day against a ****e team. That is all.

I've been right for a long time about Coates, he's not good enough. It's not his physical attributes, he has those, it's his mentality. He's an absolute wimp, a dopey gentle clumsy giant. If those rumours of a £7m bid are right, we should be all over it.

And as for Robinson, he needs a good clip around the ear for his behaviour yesterday. Disgraceful.

Nah, he's on the slide now.

We are totally progressing. Unfortunately we still have some weak links (who are not first teamers, luckily) but our mindset and style of football is much better than last season.

I'm disappointed though, I really thought he was going to be great for us when we signed him. We were calling out for a domineering CB with some real aerial prowess (we still are!), and I thought he might be the one.

I understand that some of his clumsiness can be put down to rustiness, but sadly it became quickly apparent there's more to it than that. He's soft, not tough enough (strange as Uruguayans are normally frightening), he can be easily bullied.

He also seems to be a bit slow of thought. Sometimes you can see his brain ticking over too slowly, by the time he's figured out what to do, the forward has stolen the ball off him, and he's stumbled to the ground.

I think a slower league like Serie A might suit him much better. I hope he does well wherever he goes next, as he seems a nice guy, but I hope he's off in the summer.
