I remember similar criticism of Suarez two years back. I have no doubt Coutinho will be our next £50m+ player within a season and a half - mainly for his goals.

He's suffering the equivalent of a writer's block in front of goal. Not because he doesn't have the talent or technique but because he feels the goal needs to be spectacular or just in off the post with power. Rather than just side footing it boringly past the keeper's arms.

I go through it from time to time in 5 a side. Other strikers on here will know what I mean.

We need to get you on board, working alongside Peters.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Coutinho is frustrating at the moment. But as he's getting in the positions, it's clear as day that pretty soon he'll be getting a high goal return. I'd say the same about quite a few in our team. It's an issue which has stopped us really taking of this season because in the big games you may only get one chance and if you miss the game goes away.

Against City Coutinho could have made it 2-1 and against Chavs Allen could've made it 2-1. Not forgetting Allen v Everton to make it 3-1. But they've all been guilty this year. Against average teams we normally get enough chances to allow us to bottle it. But as I said, the positive is we are creating the chances and soon these players will kick on.

              World Cup Brazil 2014.

He's so desperate to get in the squad that he is trying too hard to impress and putting himself under pressure. Shooting when the pass is on, trying to blast his shots...

Just needs to play his natural game. Don't think he'll make the squad tho.

It's one possible explanation but I think it is at least as likely that given our lack of goalscorers outside of Suarez (especially in the absence of Sturridge) he has been asked to step up his goal scoring and consequently is under instruction to shoot more. Also he is a young player who is developing his game, shooting accuracy is clearly something that he needs to add to his game in order to become a really top class player.

World Cup has come a year too soon. He'd have made the squad for sure in a years time. In two years he'll be considered a world class player.

Well I'm not questioning his form . Just saying that he's not found his shooting boots yet, he's been top class besides that. I certainly hope he gets to keep corner taking duty now that Gerrard is back.

My post wasn’t aimed at anybody in particular, wasn’t even questioning why people are criticising his form. Was more just wondering if I was the only one thinking he was starting to find his form again.

Before he got injured this season I was thinking he wasn’t playing that well and it wasn’t that great a loss, but it wasn’t until he was out that I realised how much we missed him. So I can easily understand some of the comments that are being made now, but equally I’m pretty confident that he reach the form of last season and progress even further.

yeh, sorry I knew you wasn't 'having a go' at me or anyone in particular. I just wanted to make sure my comment hadn't been misunderstood. It was never meant as a criticism of Coutinho, he's one of my favorite players. It was just an observation.
