We should be coaching world class players for ourselves. We need to use the Coutinho money to get the team to such a level that we are regularly competing for the league and CL meaning that our best players don't want to leaveThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

What?! And the latter bit of that is just a contradiction. Any time we get close to something special we wreck it by selling one of our best players.Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostWe should be grateful we've coached another player to world class standard so we have the opportunity to sell and build something special.

No way Lallana makes that team for me - Bobby as the 10 and Belotti up frontOriginally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostFor me Keita and VVD are just serious upgrades for areas in our team we needed to improve regardless of whether Coutinho stayed or not.
If/when Coutinho leaves, then we need to be bringing in more players of that quality to replace Coutinho's quality. I like Lemar as a player but would not be happy if he alone was the incoming quality if/when Coutinho goes.
For me it is not a case of trying to find a player that brings the same things that Coutinho brings, it is simply a case of bringing in one or two more players that add the same quality or better to their positions in our starting XI that Coutinho brought to his.
In theory just say Coutinho goes and we use that money to get two players like de Vrij and Saul.
Suddenly that gives us a starting line up next August of
----------------Karius-------------
Clyne---de Vrij-------VVD-----Robertson
---------Keita---------Saul--------------
---------------Lallana-------------------
Salah---------Firmino-----------Mane
And that is without even touching next summer's transfer budget for a new keeper or new CM/AM

We need to stop being cry babies, we either sell if we think it's the best option or we don't, this, and interviews by players, makes no difference. Coutinho already wants to go there, we know because he said so in the summer.
Our manager met with VVD behind his clubs back ffs. And it worked.

To be fair I did say that was the team before the summer transfer money got spent

For some players yes that may always be the case, but I'm not convinced that it's true for everyone. If you are a player wanting success, whose options are to stay at Liverpool in a continual battle for a CL spot or going to Barcelona or Madrid who are in a two way battle for the title and are in the latter stages of the CL every season with a realistic chance of winning it, then it's a fairly easy choice. If Liverpool are challenging for the title and regularly in the latter stages of the CL then the decision is more difficult.Originally posted by EwarWoo View PostThey'll want to leave regardless. South American and Spanish players seems nigh on impossible With Madrid and Barca calling that they always get their man.
But looks like we have gone down the route of picking the cream of African players which seems to be a strategy that works, especially with the Afcon moving to the summer.

Yep, City have kept Silva and Aguero for christ knows how long now, Real were obsessed with Aguero at one point too yet he's still in this country. De Gea, Hazard etc. Obviously it's easier if you can financial dope and have a recent history of winning trophies but at some point we have to try and join them rather than this bollocks of apparently just accepting our place in the pecking order and saying how high when Barca or Real say jump. Last summer was a good start, hopefully it continues otherwise we'll never get out of this roundabout of winning **** all, eventually building something that gets close, losing the best player then having to start over again. I think we'd handle this departure better than the others but it still shouldn't happen and players like Lemar mentioned as replacements are nowhere near him.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostFor some players yes that may always be the case, but I'm not convinced that it's true for everyone. i think mahrez has had his moments but isnt still at that level.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI think Mahrez could be a very decent replacement for Phil, he seems to play at a pretty high level at Leicester, imagine what he could do playing for us?
the young lad Demarai Gray looks very useful and was often making the space and the passes for rat boy vardy.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

The problem with the club is we haven't challenged consistently and players want to win things in their career.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostIf Cou does go, it will be another step back. Man why do we keep losing our best players. From Xabi, Torrss, Suarez, Sterling and now Cou. What is the problem with the club? Is Mo going to be the next one gone as Well?
