What? What about what Liverpool FC and the fans might want, is that not part of the equation?

BTW while I know this is just football, "accept it and move on" is a terrible attitude when you feel you might be getting screwed in a situation. Just saying.

Surely you only let him go if they meet our valuation (which I dont think they have come anywhere near so far)

This is all about them paying to get the man they want, not us getting ****ed over on any deal just to satisfy the whims of the player and Barcelona

Plus we have him on a long contract which should leave us in a decent position to boss the deal.

The 40 or so million in add ons bit I am fine with, as long as they are achieveable add ons, but the initial fee should be closer the 140m mark.

In a way it is mad that we are saing that 105m initially is not enough, but such is the current market and importance of player.
It depends what is meant by 'upfront'

That suggests a cash transfer of £105m. It doesn't mean that the 'initial fee' is that? The initial fee should be £130m plus addons. £105m paid now, £25m next season (or whatever) in order to balance Barca's P&L.

        That would be ok

However if its £105m plus addons, they can **** right off
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

          Barcelona are taking the piss

Just reading the Spanish papers this morning, their highest bid in the summer was €114m of which €85m was upfront the rest on the never never

Their latest bid is €116m (yes just €2m more) of which €90m is upfront the rest on the never never

**** them and **** him if thats true

We apparently want €160m excluding add ons which is apparently €30m more than we wanted in the summer

Blaming the owners or calling them small time for this is pretty ridiculous IMO.

Yeah, I'd like them to hold on and do a deal for the summer but we have an unhappy player willing to go on strike that could upset the harmony at the club. It's gutting but **** the little rat. What is happening is exactly what has happened to Southampton over Virgil so we can't get on our high horse either.

The best option it seems is to get a good deal and bring in an immediate replacement.

Someone whining above that we won't spend a 5th of £300m? We've spent over £160m on players over last 2 windows and are linked with a £90m bid for Lemar. We're not exactly being stingey here.

This is just a case of a player wanting to leave. It happens all the time when Barca or Madrid come in for players.

It isn't finished yet because the club haven't received the offer they think they should. I have a lot of faith in them that they'll get close to their ideal figure - the negotiations on sales these last couple of years have been pretty decent. I'd also be very surprised if there isn't a replacement in mind which will be completed before too long.

As much as I like Coutinho and enjoy watching him play, I don't think he's the be all and end all of our team. He isn't Gerrard between 2004 and 2009, he isn't Suarez in 13/14 - he isn't the best of our best players.

I am just hoping the club toe the same line they did in the summer

IE pay us what we want or **** off

He'll probably just update the one he wrote in the summer.

I'd let him rot in the reserves until the summer ala VVD. It won't drive the price down, again it's a WC year. Selling now is madness.

It may explain why the low initial fee is being offered.

Everything else Barca are doing is trying to get the price lowered, because they can't afford much more.
Projects have no baring on FFP, they're also one of the richest clubs in the world. Neymar's wages may well have been greater than all their summer signings combined too.

I agree they're probably at their limit though, if they can't afford it, tough titties.

The timing of this release makes me feel we won't be too happy about some other news that might be coming our way in the near future
