That is just empirically untrue. Check the stats for our wages as % of turnover.Originally posted by Mello View PostWe are being stingy compared to our rivals. And it's true in the wage side as well.
Most recent accounts we had the 5th highest turnover in the league but the 3rd highest outright wages and the highest % of turnover out of the top 6. We paid more in wages than City did ffs.

imo those stats demonstrate that our turnover isn't high enough. We could 1) charge overseas fans for merch & tix 2) charge local fans for tix or 3) get more for tv rights.
I'm sure most of us would say option 1 (option 3 is too transferable to other clubs as a strategy to imply any permanent gain), but that means non locals paying premium prices for tix, which locals can't afford. There's no easy option. I don't think the owners are being mean, but I do think they're being realistic, which is not that palatable when we haven't dominated European football for a while.Really?

That base payment of around 100 million is way too low for him. Also agree with everyone on the disruption to our season by selling him in January. About how we hold all the aces with the contract length etc.Originally posted by Shaggy View Post
But I think this transfer is happening because Klopp values team spirit above everything.
Don't know if this is the correct approach as we can see the saga repeating itself in summer for Salah.

£100m **** off with that and if the club agree then their a bunch of *****.
We’ve spent years going on about how difficult it is to sign players in January, yet here we are, potentially selling our best player in January.
Utter madness and the reason why we never get anywhere. Could you see Chelsea selling Hazard or City selling Silva in January? Can you ****.Last edited by Leyton388; 04-01-18, 09:25 PM.

There's a difference between it being difficult to buy players in Jan, and a player who threw the kitchen sink at getting a move in the summer and clearly is doing again potentially (not actually yet) getting sold for more than the value of most entire actual football clubs. While it is always disappointing losing a great player this is hardly like the club are out there looking to sell, and acting like this is a simple, black & white thing that makes the club to be the "*****'s" here is verging on the ridiculous imho.Originally posted by Leyton388 View Post£100m **** off with that and if the club agree then their a bunch of *****.

We should use the money to build something special at academy level. Up until recently we were dining at the 2nd tier, spending on average £20m on players. This money could elevate us and seeing that we've not really got much choice it's only worthwhile looking at the positives
