We lacked a cutting edge this season. Rodgers said he'd address that problem in the January window and fair play to him, he did. We look a completely different prospect with Sturridge & Coutinho.

Hope he shows a similar successful application when dealing with the defence in the summer.

I know its early, but the Coutinho signing, especially at the amount we paid for him, might just be inspired. He seems to have that care on the ball and vision that other teams have paid massively more for. How many on here said Sturridge was over priced as well?

The defensive signings will be crucial. Have the much vaunted scouting team actually started yet?

Excellent game. Pepe was fantastic yesterday, I hope he can reproduce that form on a regular basis. Coutinho looks class and Suarez is undoubtedly the best player in the Premiership. Agger and Enrique were brilliant yesterday too. In spite of Wigan's efforts I was never overly worried about them getting back in to the game.

Agreed. The game was set once Kone missed a good chance and we flew up the pitch and scored. And despite their chances, once we got 3, they were never going to get anything.

Not bad. As well as this, we could well end up with the following:

Highest scorer and player of the year in Suarez.

Highest total of assists in Gerrard.

Golden Gloves for most clean sheets in Pepe.

It's unlikely (especially POTY) but to have all that and fall short of Europe is a bit gutting.
