Of course we want to be in Europe.
European experience for our players and getting used to playing two games a week is excellent preparation for playing in the CL. Also playing in Europe does attract players.
We from all British clubs pride ourselves in our European glories and European nights, why would we not want more?

For me his statement is very much, oops we've missed the target this year, ah but on the plus side...
    We come not to play.

if the bodge had come out with these comments attributed to rodgers there would be torchlight processions and a burning effigy of him hung from the Shankly gates

There are more factors than that though.

Hodgson was hugely anti-football, he'd comment on how well we played after sitting 10 men behind the ball. The comments that Rodgers come out with are all quite cliche, but he normally speaks the truth.

              Rodgers is out of order.
              Rodgers is David Brent.
              Rodgers lacks ambition and respect
              Rodgers talks too much
Rodgers is learning on the job (despite having 15 + years of experience in coaching)
Rodgers still thinks he is managing Swansea
Rodgers has a picture of himself in his own house (wanky yes, but not a shock and horror moment)
Rodgers only buys players from Swansea or those that he has worked with before.

              Rodgers OUT!

Maybe if Some fans thought less about making random inferences into what he said or has done they wouldn't work themselves up so much!

Rodgers is learning on the job, that's my favourite one. I mean if there's one thing we can be clear on, it's that we want a manager who doesn't learn.

Rodgers himself turned us down, then came back a few weeks later.

Hip hip hooray another Rodgers thread.

See Spurs tonight. It's only the EL but I'd much rather watch us in a penalty shootout on a Thursday night and have a game on Sunday than see some Home & Away during the week and ten minutes of us on MOTD every Saturday.

We might mock Spurs or Chelsea but another cup is another cup.

It's ridiculous to suggest that the Europa League is beneath us as a club of our present status.
Thankfully, I don't believe that's what Rodgers is saying, its clearly just an attempt to put a better face on things for the rest of the season, plus our likely position come May.
Would rather not hear stuff like this from a Liverpool manager all the same, but the one thing Rodgers has demonstrated since taking over is that he's sometimes too willing to ingratiate himself upon the media.
Things are in motion, we are progressing, and apart from Rodgers' handling of the Zenith game (from a football perspective) and his somewhat 'open' method, he's done OK this season.

No, I didn't see Spurs tonight. Apart from Spurs fans, hardly anyone else did either because they don't give a **** about the Europa League. "Can I put the footy on the TV tonight love?" "What is it?" "Europa League" "No". While we would rather watch it, it truly is a second rate competition. Now winning second rate competitions is better than not winning any competitions, but it's not going to make a dent on our clubs achievements in the round if we never win it again, never mind miss out on playing in it for a season.

I'm going to use my 700th post to praise Rodgers. He comes out with some awful guff but there is always some sense behind it....I think!

The time to judge him is next season. I really enjoy the football we are playing even if that makes me sound like a spurs fan from the 80's!

We've been here so many times. I don't think anyone would disagree that he is a top, top manager, but some simply can't stand him and don't want him as our manager. Simples!

As for the Europa League - I'd love to be in it next season as it's a European competition, it's more games to watch, and it's another trophy we can aim to win.

However, I also completely agree with the notion that not being in it may benefit us in the league next season. I just can't see how that is such a bad thing for Rodgers to have said.

I think people need to remember that he doesn't just sit down and decide he's going to setup an interview so he can say these things. He's surely asked these questions by an interviewer and responds honestly - whether it's what we all want to hear or not.
