Well we will have to see what happens. Worse case scenario is he turns out to be an excellent back up keeper. Klopp obviously sees him training day in, day out so he must be doing something right.
I don't think he just turns up and does a half arsed job either.
Oh triffic......so while you're up the road jollying it up, it's touch your toes time for Rodney

I don't know, hence the word "presumably"- clearly I should've left it out tho as I've had to pointlessly clarify anyways.

New contracts are rarely without an increase else why sign them so ahead of the curve?

I wouldn't be "up in arms" about letting him go- in fact I want him wolf in summer.
      3rd place. Worst champions ever.

He wouldn't even be an excellent back up keeper tho would he? Cech was that at the Chavs.

And it's not the worse case scenario is it? That is he's a **** first team keeper- that's the point.

Well a great back up keeper, on a par with Begovic - which I think will eventually happen.

Ward has been brought back early. He will get his chance and then I think decisions will be made.

...if I was Brendan, in the summer I'd have used my 'great relationship' with Mourinho to offer Cech first team place with us instead of the Arse. That could have saved him his job... maybe.

Surely, a viable way of reading that stat is that it is possible to make a very effective defense with Mignolet as keeper? If that is true and Klopp believes that other areas of the team are a bigger priority I would suggest his previous record would suggest he should be given the chance to try his way.

You've picked the only example I can think of in living memory whereby a backup keeper would walk into almost any other side in the same league

                  Ter Stegen at Barca maybe

Otherwise, an excellent backup keeper is normally nowhere near as good as the keeper he's backing up

With 2.5 years left it does strike me as a little odd that we'd renew given his current form, but I don't think it precludes us from buying a player that will challenge him for the number one spot. In fact I think that's the perfect scenario, 2 quality (yeah yeah) keepers vying to be number one

Only issue with that, is that Mig is the definition of a confidence player.....

It hasn't helped Mig that up to now he has had no serious competition for his place.

...a lifesize cutout of himself would be challenging him right now.

                        From Sky Sports News:

"Jurgen Klopp has described goalkeeper Simon Mignolet as the perfect all-round package for Liverpool. The Reds boss was speaking after the Belgian signed a new five-year deal with the club earlier in the week..."

You use the term managed decline a lot. Can you explain on what planet the owners would want to reduce the value of their investment? Cos ****ed if I know

Can you imagine him fumbling about with no confidence and game sharpness as a backup keeper only being used in the Cups? Course you can - it would be a disaster.

You could argue that and he absolutely has the right to try his way, that's why we got him. The frustration comes from the fact we've watched Mig be average for 3 years so we're a bit sick of it whereas Kloppo has only had to put up with his **** for 3 months . Not to mention some big errors in high profile games this week which makes the timing all the more weird.

I think Hemmingway put it up here a while ago but his percentage of saves to shots he's faced is average and that's cos he is average . However as 13-14 showed, we can get by with average at the back if the front is amazing and if Klopp is prioritising that then I'm all for it.

I still don't see why he needed or deserved a new deal though, not yet anyway.
