Defending today was poor from defence and centre midThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Looking at the goals he wasn't to blame and like some have said he made some good saves.
But I'm throwing out there the possibility that one of the reasons our defence struggles is because he doesn't direct/organise/marshal them. I don't think him or karius are strong enough in presence to bark orders out. Take old Red Nose, he made Bruce and Pallister better because he had enormous presence. He would go ape at them. People rarely argued back. For me a keeper is the most important person in the team. It's imperative you get yourself the best one you can possibly afford. A good all round keeper instills confidence. Mig is s good shot stopper, that's not in doubt.
I'm not saying the result is on him, the team had a bad day. I just think that over the season not having a top keeper will be to the detriment of the team.
Before the usual suspects jump in, this is called discussion. It's not a witch hunt. It's putting out there a theory which might be wrong but is my opinion which could also be wrong.

It's tough as he has periods of excellence.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostLooking at the goals he wasn't to blame and like some have said he made some good saves.

But overall he doesn't appear to have that authority that you look for in keepers.
And we don't have it in our defence either. Or midfield arguably.. especially when Henderson is missing.
There was a great article posted this week on here about Klopps transfer business at BD where he had a lot of success buying cheap young players and made them very good ones. He's obviously trying that with Karius. I think in Klopps heart he knows we will need better than Mig at some point.

We certainly need a keeper who is more commanding of his area, but I don't think that that alone solves the problem, I don't think the defence is good enough either, but also that alone doesn't solve the problem. We need both a commanding GK and a defensive organiser.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostLooking at the goals he wasn't to blame and like some have said he made some good saves.

He isn't great at commanding his area, especially at corners, but he has improved a lot. His distribution, which was chastised a lot, has also improved. Now he comes out and acts as a sweeper at times, and does it well and assuredly. He is much better than Karius who has been tentative when he has played.
I think we defend crosses better now. Yesterday we were up against arguably the best in the world in terms of delivery, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt for these goals. Are we winning?

I guess there's two phases of distribution. Kicking it out, he has improved much, but he's not very good at finding a man or kicking it in a general direction that puts the other defence under a bit of pressure. There's a football intelligence involved in booting it up field and he hasn't got it like some of the other top keepers do.Originally posted by Fredo View PostHe isn't great at commanding his area, especially at corners, but he has improved a lot.
