I think a while out of the spotlight for Mignolet would do him the world of good. The pressure of being number 1 is clearly too much for him. I'd have him as number 2. Question is still, who is number 1? I'm not sure putting Ward in front of a brittle back line will help his development right now.

He was dropped for a month weren't he, by Rodgers? Didn't do much good...

He did well when he came back in, temporarily.

You see keepers like K. Schmeichel and Gomes having great seasons but I honestly believe they would be just as bad as Mignolet if we signed them. Gomes at Spurs is a good example.

There's much more expectation at a club like Liverpool and the level of concentration probably needs to be higher as you can go 60 minutes without having to make a save.

It's been septic of our transfer policy of signing intermediate level footballers who do well at their respective levels but can't make the step up.

I always said it, but if we're signing players from lower clubs, theynedd to be exceptional and Mignolet for sure was not exceptional at Sunderland.

              He was okayyyyyy...ish.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here but I hope you're not in any way advocating that he has the potential to be brilliant and that it's the pressure that's getting to him.

He's a poor* footballer, it's clear as day.

*by poor, I mean thick. He's just proper thick, isn't he? Just bad decision after bad decision. A proper detriment to the team.

There does seem to be a lot of very talented young goalkeepers out there especially in Germany & Italy. Perin seems to be one that is attracting a hell of alot of attention & a young lad Scuffet ..whom i've never seen but some Italian lad was talking about him the other week... said big talk of him over there.

Then there's the German lads in Leno & Stegen. Forster & Butland do look like good keepers aswell. The difference a top GK makes to a team is absolutely ridiculous. Watching De Gea bailing United out time and time again is so annoying, but thats the difference a world class GK can make.

What we have at the moment is an average GK, not **** but bang average with a weak mentality. When your last line of defence is somebody that is easily flustered and has clear confidence issues... you're in the ****. Our CB's have been poor but you can be guaranteed that this guy has got something to do with it IMO.

Goalkeeper is the one position I'd be inclined to see us go for a solid old pro.

Venton suggested a break would do him good. You said it didn't last tie. I suggested that it did. I made no comment about his overall ability.

I think he's a decent keeper who isn't suited to a top side or a team which concedes few chances (and he has a weakness with crosses). As a backup I think he'd be fine. As a first choice he has proven to not be up to it.

I'd be happy for us to go with an Ospina rather than a Cech (on the basis I don't see any keepers of the latters quality on the market), but I don't think we should be using age/experience as a big factor in our decision.

I believe Venton was suggesting some time out of the spotlight would help him clear his head and he would then become a decent keeper. I was pointing out that it's been tried and tested and, 4 months later, he's even worse. So basically, his mistakes are hereditary.

Sorry if it seemed like I was snapping but this guy is a sore point for me at the moment as I think we've wasted two years keeping him between the sticks.

I don't think anyone here has rated him for a long time. What crazy situation is that to be in for 2 years???....when your own fans don't rate your keeper ( besides Kenneth).

I was thinking that being out of the spotlight might make him a decent number 2, coming in every now and again to cover cup game or injuries. I wouldn't make him a long term number 1 again, no way José.

If the consensus is that Mig is gone in summer - hopefully Fat Sam will bring him back to Sunderland and think he's 'a snip' at £10m with 4.5 years of his contract remaining..

                                However...

I still have a nagging doubt that whoever we bring in as No1 we'll somehow turn him into a bag of spanners within the first 10 games of next season. The keeper could be a 'worldie' somewhere else and John Achterburg will turn him into a complete donut.
