Celtic was an aberration. We should have taken them to the cleaners.Originally posted by danperkins View PostGreat to get another game in against decent opposition... as our pre season games were bit easy. Nice to see Sturridge back fit & hope he's sharp for Stoke... super player. Was muß, das muß.

Them & Newcastle are a decent standard as oppose to several others we played. Just nice to see us playing decent enough opposition that are going to provide a bit of a test for us.

Are Celtic really any better than Olympiakos? I have my doubts.Originally posted by danperkins View Post

They probably are tbh, but they put in a proper shift against us whereas Olympiakos enjoyed the occasion and weather.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostAre Celtic really any better than Olympiakos? I have my doubts.
Celtic game was exactly what we needed, even if the result was not ideal we need to see beyond that in this instance (not aimed at you Matt

Good physical test for our new foreign players... taste of what they will come up against in the premier league i.e. Stoke on the first day of the season. Olympiakos game was a stroll.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostAre Celtic really any better than Olympiakos? I have my doubts.
And Celtic have already started their season & played a champs league game.. which means their match fitness levels are further along than Olympiakos who Liverpool played 10 days & whom haven't started their season yet.
So if you doubt that the Celtic game was a much stronger test for Liverpool than the Olympiakos game.. then i would have my doubts that you were right

I also think Celtic are a good level below Newcastle too.Originally posted by danperkins View PostGood physical test for our new foreign players... taste of what they will come up against in the premier league i.e. Stoke on the first day of the season. Olympiakos game was a stroll.

Has he been injured? He's supposed to be very highly rated and it's strange that we've not included him in any of the preseason tours but we have given game time to the likes of Spearing who we openly told didn't have a future at the clubOriginally posted by spider-neil View PostHope highlights of this game is shown because Texiera is supposed to be amazing.Kurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has cleared another hurdle in his race be fit for Saturday's Premier League opener, scoring two goals in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
England international Sturridge made only his second appearance of pre-season, having played 45 minutes of Saturday's 1-0 loss to Celtic in Dublin, in the game against Newcastle.
He scored twice, both penalties, in a 3-1 win for the Anfield side.
The match was arranged especially to give the 23-year-old a chance to improve his match sharpness.
Sturridge sustained an ankle injury on international duty against the Republic of Ireland in May and his rehab programme meant he missed the club's pre-season tour of Asia and Australia.
His long-awaited return in the second half against Celtic injected some threat into a forward line struggling to break down their opponents' defence.
His performance raised hopes he could be ready to face Stoke at Anfield on Saturday, when the league campaign gets under way.
With Luis Suarez suspended for a further six matches after biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in April and Iago Aspas - a £7million summer signing from Celta Vigo - still finding his feet in England, Sturridge's return is a timely boost for manager Brendan Rodgers.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.
