6-1, 1994. I just checked. But no, that's not what I was thinking of, much later. I must have imagined it.
A check back from 86-95 suggests we nearly always used to win our opening game. I suspect the only lesson there is simply we were better in those days.
Someone needs to complete the Wiki article on our 1985-86 season.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

The big worry if he maintains the direct approach is that we aren't great in the air. Our fullbacks are a particular worry in that regard and if Hughes makes his team play as he did at Blackburn I would expect a severe examination in that regard.
Flipside of that is that Stoke's lack mobilie defensive players combined with the evidence of how Hughes tactics worked at QPR suggest that if we can dominate midfield we will get a lot of chances."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Replace Sterling for Suarez and that team can compete with any in the Prem I think.Originally posted by DKdan View PostI really hope Hughes will try to adapt a ball-playing approach against us. I think they could be in for an absolute hammering if they do that.
