I think you're right, the starting XI will include Downing. It will be pretty much the team you've set out IMO.

I'm more suprised people are putting Sturridge in when he has had no pre-season and it really looks like he won't be ready to start the first game. We're going to need him fit for the long term, no point risking him imo when Aspas looks pretty capable of doing a job there.

I just can't see it being anything else. Sturridge possibly depending on how Dublin goes, but I thik we'll keep him on the bench, to be brought on if needed.

No room for Ibe, Wisdom, Coates. It's not actually as competitive as I thought .......the only real competition looks to be in the wide areas and attacking midfield

Id go with that starting 11, apart from Alberto. Id stick Downing in there just to add a bit of solidity. Alberto might get kicked all over the park in his first game and go into his shell.

Completely agree - for me the midfield 3 picks itself. Gerrard and Lucas providing the base for Coutinho as a no.10. We saw the damage he caused playing there last season.
