The defending was effective, but we rode our luck in the second half. I wouldn't want us to play like we did in the last 45 minutes too often. A better team would have capitalised. The first few games of the season are unpredictable, all teams are working to get into their stride. We seem to have made a habit of losing points early on in recent seasons so to amass six points from our two opening games is excellent. It'll be nice if we can continue to gain points when we don't play particularly well.

We've got a very effective defensive shape now. Full backs tuck in and the midfield line is close to the defence. We could be vulnerable to genuine wingers and crosses, but we're generally better than teams that play that way anyway as they leave more spaces to exploit themselves.

We rode our luck a bit but we're getting there tactically and I love the togetherness we are showing.

Agger & Toure cleared it 21 times between them, With the best villa defender only clearing 5 times.

But we have beaten a brutal team in stoke and handled a brutal attacker in Benteke and struggled to do either last season, Will happily nick these 1 nils hile playing well till Suarez gets back, then the real fireworks can begin!!

Can't believe some of the pessimistic viewpoints in here.

Even though a lot did predict a win, it was always going to be an extremely tough game, and I believe a lot of those predictions were made heart over head, especially considering Villa's start. What a fantastic win, and it will definitely get us inspired for the game next weekend.

                Cannot wait.

I don't think pessimistic is fair. We didn't set the world alight in the 2nd half & that needs to be addressed but we're all happy that we've got the 3 points against a difficult opponent.

it's a great trait to win when not at your best so ill happily take those 3 points. As someone else said, if Reina was in goals still we'd probably be sitting on 2 points right now. Have to agree with that.

Just shows how crap Carragher was. I used to wince every time I saw his name on the teamsheet. He played like he was wearing roller skates. We look much, much more solid with Toure there

Won't see a more clear penalty all season. Why Clattenburg didn't give it God only knows. Their player got nowhere near the ball

We could never play with such a high line with Carra in the side & Kolo is looking a brilliant signing so far.

Pessimistic is a huge understatement. After a tricky game in which we played some superb football and won against a team that beat Arsenal comfortably and deserved a draw at Chelsea, you'd think we were penned in our area for 90 minutes reading some of the absolute bollocks on here.

To be fair, a lot of our fans are know-nothing miserable *******s

TBF I didn't spend all night in the match thread as I was watching on my iPad & couldn't be stuffed posting in the phone but the comments I read weren't that bad. I stand corrected if I missed some crap.
