The two goals they scored were just bad defending. Some poor performances from our defenders. On a positive note Sturridge continued to be excellent and the Henderson goal was a joy. It was an enjoyable game, never expected us to lose even when they got their second goal. If Alberto is that much of a non-entity against such a poor side then I doubt he's got anything to contribute at all. He looked clueless. My daughter enjoyed her first game anyway, glad it was a high scoring game.

What do you think about Rodgers putting Sterling at right back when we went down to 10 men? I was surprised by that decision. I thought he might have put someone with a bit more experience there.

It worked quite well, Sterling gets stuck in. Obviously no good for set pieces, but he seems to have strength beyond his size.

He was a bit rash with his tackles, didn't he get a yellow card after being moved there? Don't you think it's dangerous having an inexperienced player near the penalty box when drawing 2-2.

We needed two banks of four, Sturridge was always going to be the lone striker in that formation. I think Sterling did okay when he was playing on the right side of defence. It wasn't ideal, but he got stuck in.

Rodgers already know after what happened to Kenny that the cups is just a bonus, nothing else.

If we get knocked out straight away in the cups and finish fourth then FSG will celebrate a lot. If we finish say worse than fifth and win both cups then it will probably be bye bye Rodgers and FSG won't be pleased at all.

Even winning a final in one of the cups is worth less than any of the 38 games in the league in our situation.
Kenny was sacked because after blowing more than £100m on players we finished with a pathetic points total. In that case the cup performances were not enough, and rightly so.

If we finish 6th but with another ~10 point improvement over last year despite a summer of working within a tight-ish budget, and we also happen to win a cup, Rodgers wouldn't be at risk at all imo. Rightly so

The world will not end if we do not qualify for the CL this season you know. Of course we could really do with it and the league has to be the priority, but you can still make room to at least try to win other competitions. Its all rather boring, pointless and clinical otherwise. Cup ties like that are fun, when you lose all sense of that I honestly start to question the point in football.

Besides it could well be beneficial to give some players extra competitive minutes at this stage of the season. Hindsight with injuries etc is all well and good but we could easily have ended up walking that match 4-0 and having first teamers better prepared for the weekend.

There was a comedy moment where Wisdom and Toure both left the ball for each other, but generally Wisdom was okay.

Sure it worked out OK. I was just surprised as wondered what others thought.

I expected Gerrard or Henderson to be moved there.

                        He certainly got stuck in!

Glad we went through to the next round, and especially considering the development of the game and it sorta makes up a bit for the injuries. Would have sucked leaving the cup after 3 injuries.

Toure is probably the biggest loss with the form he showed from start - hope it's not to serious. Cissokho looked absolutly devastated when walking off, and rightly so, this was his first chance to take the spot from Enrique.

Hope it's only a couple of weeks for all of them.

Besides that - some good goals at least, and an exciting match to watch.

On that note just saw this on the offal:

Brendan: Kolo injury doesn't look good

Brendan Rodgers is hopeful Martin Skrtel will be fit in time to face Manchester United on Sunday after admitting he feared the worst over a groin injury sustained by Kolo Toure in the 4-2 win over Notts County.

The Ivorian defender was stretchered off with the game at 2-2 and is now a doubt for the weekend, along with Joe Allen and Aly Cissokho.

Rodgers said: "Kolo Toure, we need to assess it. His groin opened up a wee bit. He overstretched his groin and it doesn't look so good, to be honest."

Skrtel has yet to feature this season due to injury but he could be back for David Moyes' first trip to Anfield as Manchester United manager.

"Yes, he will be fine," said the boss. "Tonight was too soon for him but he's been back training for a few days."

Rodgers also provided an update on the conditions of Allen and Cissokho, who also had to leave the field in Tuesday's League Cup encounter.

"Cissokho was devastated," he said. "He shouldn't be too long. He's got a knock in his ankle. He was distraught to come off in his first start here.

"Joe Allen may well be a hamstring so we'll have a look at that.

"We'll know more in the morning but it wasn't a good night injury-wise."

I thought he was all over the place to be honest. Lost the runner for opening goal, played the Notts attacker onside for the equaliser, game away a cheap free kick (when the Notts attacker was going nowhere) which lead to the Kolo injury.
I thought he had a nightmare and I'll be very worried if he is partnering Agger on Sunday.
