it's good that sturridge continued his form but he looked goosed at the end and 120 minutes of midweek action is hardly ideal preparation for someone just back from injury, injury prone and the only person in the team who looks capable of scoring until suarez comes back.

but still - he shouldn't be needed in a game like that, and i maintain that the likes of borini should have played instead, and if they weren't capable of getting the job done against a **** notts county side then two things...

    a) we'd know for sure they should be ****ed off
    b) we'd have a fully fit squad for SUnday

I think we started Sturridge as we're trying to get him match fit. I don't think we planned for 120 minutes of match fitness though! I was bricking it that his hamstring or something would go in extra time. I wanted him taken off at half time when we were 2-0 up. I think that was the sensible option. Hopefully he can rest now and he'll be extremely sharp against United after that run out. They'll be scared of him, no doubt

obviously the cissokho injury early on scuppered plans but imo we at 2-0 and cruising we should have changed it, we took our foot of the gas and became complacent, we should have brought the likes of sturridge and possibly gerrard off for Borini/Aspas and Henderson

two fresh pairs of legs eager to impress, borini or aspas especially who coming on at 2-0 up against a lower league team should be licking their lips and i'd argue that in the situation it would have stopped the complacency - i'll add here, before the superfans have a pop, i'm not accusing gerrard and sturridge of being complacent, the whole team seemed to stop, bringing on two squad players who should be looking to impress would/should have stopped that as they would be running round figthing for everything.

another worry was that, you could see the complacency coming into the side, bit by bit we dropped off and allowed their confidence to grow, worrying that htis wasn't spotted and stopped before they scored.

Anyway **** it - what's done is done, we won. Just hope the knock on effect for the united game isn't too bad

Gerrard has to manage himself. He's 33 not 23 and our season is a minimum of 38 and he has just come back from injury. Gerrard strolling around gets a pass from me, I rather than Gerrard crock himself two games into the season chasing down every ball in a league cup game (no offence to the LC).

Yeah I was worried about Gerrard too. Have to say though he looks supremely fit these days, especially for his age, he really does

                  Spot on PTP.

Bringing in Aspas and Borini would also give them both a great chance to get some goals and get off and running for the season, build confidence.

I hope and pray nothing happens to sturridge before Suarez is back, up **** creek if it does.

that's the point i was trying to make - great we've started gerrard to 'be safe' - but he's played his part, we're 2-0 up at home cruising against a side struggling in league one!

at this point surely it's better to have a 'squad' player looking to impress who will run non stop for 30 mins, over a senior first teamer who we don't want to get injured

This lfc side lacks a physical edge to their game.........need to add a bit of muscle in the team

For me Wisdom was at fault for both goals. Got sucked over ball watching on the first one (leaving a man behind him to head in). And then ****ed the line up playing them onside for the second.

I see glimpses of a good player in wisdom but he makes too many mistakes and too often. He needs to be loaned out and play week in week out imho.

Henderson was excellent when he came on, I can really seeing him becoming Gerrards replacement in years to come.

We got complacent and we paid the price, instead of playing football and and putting it out of sight certain players took it upon themselves to use the game as a exhibition trying to take the world on and be a hero... i.e. Sterling/Sturridge/Ibe. Dont get me wrong they had good performances but lost their professionalism for me towards the end.
