I have said this for years. If you have an EU Country passport you can work where you want to in the EU. Uefa's quota system goes against these regulations? Therefore, it is illegalOriginally posted by G View PostSaw something on twitter last week, some study done somewhere that suggests that UEFA's quota system is illegal so they may have to make changes.

Having a maximum squad ceiling and a minimum HGP basement. This limits the rights of EU passport holders.Originally posted by G View PostIt was this, not that they think it's illegal but that it isn't very good at doing what it set out to do and is discriminatory in certain ways.

Interesting to see if anything happens. The EU commission seem to be happy to continue monitoring it for a few more years before they do anything.Originally posted by Assassin View PostHaving a maximum squad ceiling and a minimum HGP basement. This limits the rights of EU passport holders.

Roy Hodgson wants Liverpool's Tiago Ilori to declare for England
Roy Hodgson will attempt to convince Liverpool’s new signing Tiago Ilori to snub Portugal and adopt English nationality.
No sooner had Ilori completed his £7million switch to Anfield from Sporting Lisbon, it emerged that the Football Association has opened the door for the 20-year-old defender to represent England.
Ilori was born in London before returning to the birthplace of his Portuguese mother, and although he has represented Portugal at youth level, he has not won a senior cap and would be eligible to make the switch.
Whether Ilori has any interest in playing for England is yet to be established but, given the worrying shortage in home-grown players emerging through the academies into the top Premier League teams, Hodgson and the FA are taking a more proactive stance in tracing players with English roots.
Of the 198 players who started for Premier League teams last weekend, only 65 were English. It means that Hodgson is picking from a far smaller pool of top-division players than any of his counterparts in leading European countries. The Premier League chief executive, Richard Scudamore, angered Hodgson by claiming recently that there were more than 200 English players for Hodgson to choose from.
Of more pressing concern to Hodgson is the shortage of fit senior players for the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Moldova at Wembley on Friday and away to Ukraine next week. Hodgson’s hopes of steering England to the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer are in the *balance and defeat in either of the forthcoming fixtures could have *decisive consequences.
Wayne Rooney, Glen Johnson and Phil Jones withdrew from Hodgson’s squad on Sunday evening and Daniel Sturridge, who is likely to be given a key attacking role in Rooney’s absence, was nursing a thigh injury when he joined the squad on Monday.
Ilori was one of two defensive reinforcements arriving at Anfield on a relatively serene transfer deadline day compared to recent years.
Mamadou Sakho concluded the formalities of his £15million move from Paris St Germain and, in doing so, became Liverpool's most expensive purchase of the summer.
Liverpool also secured Victor Moses on a season’s loan from Chelsea, although the London club blocked an attempt to insert an option to buy in the deal.
Should Moses excel, Liverpool are hopeful they will be in prime position to make the deal permanent if they so wish next summer, anyway.
The three signings immediately set their sights on helping Liverpool back into the top four, a target many consider increasingly possible following the 100 per cent winning start.
“I spoke to Daniel Sturridge and he wanted me to come here,” Moses said. “He said I’d love it here, but he didn’t need to say much. The next morning, I had a word with my agent and told him it could be the right move for me. It’s a massive club with great history. The club is doing well, so I wanted to come here and enjoy my football.
“I’m delighted to have made the loan from Chelsea to a big club like Liverpool. The most important thing is for me to be professional about it and I’m here to do a job for the club. The target is to get into the top four and for the club to compete in the Champions League.”
Meanwhile, the Liverpool, Manchester United, Spurs and Arsenal contingents did not train with England at St George’s Park on Monday, having played on Sunday. All the other players did.
