That doesn't in anyway mean he's the 2nd coming or he's gonna be brilliant or anything but he has qualities that you rarely see together

Normally players with pace aren't great at reading a game and positional play. Why? Because pace is their get out of jail card, if you aren't in the right place then pace will dig me out of the hole

Equally players who are good positionally and have an ability to read a game tend to lack pace. They need to develop their brains to avoid being done for pace

Ilori looks like he has pace, positional nous and an ability to read a game. That's quite rare in fact I am struggling to remember anyone since Hansen who had that

Before anyone starts I am not saying he's the next Hansen or anything

Will he develop? Well I would keep him and see what happens over the next 12 months because there's a chance he might turn out to be a decent player

The thing is we have let this lad go out on loan for 3 seasons and to me it looks another massive **** up by Brendan. Not only in terms of us as a club but he could quite possibly have stymied the development of someone who had real promise
Considering our current CB options of Sakho, Lovren, Skrtel & Toure then Ilori has a great chance of getting a run in the team if his potential continues to materialise.

Sakho is our best CB by far, Skrtel is ok but looks shaky marking in the box, Lovren is now ok after a bad start last year but he's nothing great, Toure is very good or should that be, was very good and is best relied on as a good back up player.

As for Caulker, emergency cover player because of the injury epidemic.

Football Leaks who revealed the Bale transfer contract have done the same for Ilori, the whole this is below

      Here are the main details

€1,880,000 upon Ilori’s registration to play Liverpool

€3,000,000 by July 2014 (note: we signed Ilori in August 2013)

      Total transfer fee = €4.88m

      Performance bonus:

      15 Liverpool apps = €500,000

      30 Liverpool apps = €500,000

      45 Liverpool apps = €500,000

      Total performance bonus = €1.5m

Appearances are defined as starting or playing at least 45 minutes of all competitive matches in Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and Europa League

      Future transfer:

Sporting receive 25% of any profit made on a future transfer

Liverpool will notify sporting of any accepted transfer bids to allow Sporting a chance to match the transfer bid

      Clauses:

Liverpool shall not permanently transfer Ilori to Benfica, Porta or Braga st anytimes between now and Sept 2018 unless the transfer fee is a minimum guaranteed sum of €60,000,000 receive an offer of €60m. If this should happen, Sporting would receive 50% of the transfer fee.

Blimey they must think he's potentially going to be some player. Let's find that potential.

Ah that's just a "what if" clause.

I wouldn't have thought you were allowed those sort of transfer clauses in a contract, we'll certainly not legal ones outside of a 'gentleman's agreement'.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I know but that's still a heck of a figure to put down. I've no idea what the record fee for a defender is now but I thought for a long time it was about half that?

This leaked contract of Bale's has all sorts of caveats. So long as all parties sign and the clauses don't amount to restraint of trade I don't see why they wouldn't be legally enforceable.

Rio Ferdinand is probably still the world's most expensive defender inflation adjusted

Oh wait David Luiz - money laundering scam £50m. Forgot about that.

I had him in mind. Without checking I can't think of many others apart from the 2 PSG bought and of those the fuzzy haired lad barely counts as a defender.

                    Luiz that's him.

                    Timely edit.

Very composed tonight - reads the game extremely well.

Clearly struggles in the air though. I wonder if this is why Villa didn't fancy him?

Yeah he certainly does seem to struggle in the air but I was more concerned with the 3 shocking balls he played out straight back to West Ham in our final third.

He needs game time to improve aswell, very hard to judge a player with so little mins under his belt. Was so lucky for that peno. Be interesting to see what Klopp does with Illori considering how bad we've been defensively with everyone else.

Done ok though IMO & I'm not as enthused as some others about his performance.

Disaster waiting to happen IMO, will be surprised to see him survive the anticipated summer cull.

I think his composure can manifest itself as over confidence and carelessness at times but he made some incredibly timely blocks and interceptions.

Yeah I certainly wouldn't be judging him on the little i've seen of him. In saying that Bordeaux and Villa didn't seem to fancy him either. Be interesting to see what happens with him.

Does need games though, wherever that may be.
