He looked good last night, I don't know if we would be willing to give him game time in the PL through. For me I don't see why not the league season is more or less over (those inside the club may see things differently), but I would rather get to know what some of the squad players are capable of than plod on in the league as we have been doing. And if we don't give players like him a chance we will never know if they are good enough, if they are, then great - we could save ourselves a few million on a replacement, if not at least we know. Given how bad we've been at times I don't see the harm

That's the key thing for me.
Klopp effectively has a free half a season to evaluate the whole squad, we don't have a 'strongest' XI at the moment, we've got a whole bunch of players who do ok in some games and not so good in others then we've got a group of promising younger players, none of them have really torn up trees either if we're being honest.

To use LB as an example Klopp has got the rest of the season to work out if he can get some defensive positional sense into Moreno but also the same length of time to establish if Brad Smith is good enough to be an automatic starter, 2nd choice, squad player or sold.

        Same for every single position.

Agreed, we've got a good chance here to give players a 3rd of a season and see what they can do. Hope we can take advantage of it, especially with the Europa starting. Most of the best teams in it have title/CL challenges going on while we can rest up on weekends if we want.

Plus, it might save us loads of money, imagine if we give Ward say 10 league games from now and he was immense? Could give him a chance to continue it next season and it's 10-15m we dont have to spend on a goalie in the summer.

Anyone else think he looks like Rami Malek from Mr Robot?

He was decent, we've struggled against West Ham all season and he coped better than a lot of centre backs have.

I've said it time and again though, it shows how much of a mess our squad is. A player who has barely laced his boots in 2 years to come in and look on par with our strongest XI.

Same can be said about Lucas dropping back, he looked good but on the other hand Stewart looked every bit as accomplished as him in midfield.

Klopp has a tough job, so many ways things can go.

On paper and in cup games we seem to have a promising bunch of youth players, as harsh as it may sound as good as they are at U21 level or in the odd cup game, not all of them will make it at PL level we need to figure out which players are capable of doing a job and which aren't. If we are happy for Ilori to be 4th choice CB (or better) then we don't need to spend money on a Toure replacement. There are similar arguements throughout the squad, in fairness a number of our first teamers are just 'doing a job' if a youngster is capable of a similar level that first teamer could be moved, on raising us money to buy better players and freeing up some wages.

Given that he got away with it, that little pull on the forward was fantastic.

The thing with Ward is Scottish football is garbage so it hasn't really shown anyone at the club anything.
I know there has been the odd European game but that's 1 game every 5 or 6 that has any real quality or scrutiny to it.
It's about on par with the Conference.

I say that as lads I used to play with have gone to Scotland in recent years and finished top 2-3 and qualified for Europe, great lads but nowhere near Championship level in England, let alone PL.

I'd wager that's why Ward has been recalled but it's still Mingolet starting, he probably needs a loan to the Championship just to push him on that little bit more.
Imagine the outcry of us signing a Conference keeper and installing him as first choice.

How much difference does the quality of the league make to a goalkeeper? For an outfield player I imagine it will make a huge difference an average PL outfield player could look amazing in the SPL (we have seen this a number of times in the past). But keepers still have to make saves and command their area etc whoever they are playing against perhaps their mistakes aren't punished as ruthlessly as in better leagues but it's usually obvious when a keeper makes a mistake whether punished or not.

Obviously there is a quality threshold somewhere but I imagine if you look really good as a Gk in the SPL you aren't going to be a dreadful keeper in England, if you are looking shakey in the SPL you probably aren't good enough. The issue about keepers for us is that there is a different skillset/mindset required to be a keeper at a top PL club than at a midtable PL club, you only have to look Mignolet and how good he looked at Sunderland when he was constantly having to make saves, and I'm not sure you can tell whether a player can do that or not until you give the guy some games.

I'm sure the moderators would take that on board if you stop using nicknames for players as that's ****ing annoying too.
