          --------------Mignolet-----------------

          Skrtel---Toure-----Agger----Sakho

          ---------Gerrard----Lucas-------------

          Henderson----Coutinho-------Moses

          --------------Sturridge---------------

Nobody is scoring against that defence.........but I think they could still support attacks....

Without width from our FB's our formation fails. Not to mention Skrtel was horrendous when last played there.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Skrtel has to stay put given the way he's played, sends the wrong message throughout the squad otherwise.

For me, assuming that Coutinho and Johnson are still out and Agger is still not 100% (no point playing him if in any doubt given his injury record):

              Mignolet
              Kolo Skrtel Sakho Enrique
              Gerrard Lucas
              Henderson
              Moses Sturridge Sterling

I can see the temptation to go three at the back. Particularly as it would throw a tactical surprise at the Southampton manager who had us sussed last season. I'm not sure we've got the right wing-back to do it well though with Johnson still out.

Hoping Coutinho is fit for this but I don't think he will be.

After some ahem sterling play from young Raheem as a provisional rightback against Sunderland (and wasn't shabby as one against Notts C too), I'd be tempted to switch Sterling to wingback and Henderson back to midfield.

A back three makes absolute sense given our strength of depth in centre defence -- and lack of it at rightback.

Toure, Agger and Skrtel together at the same time on paper and on current form sounds a monstrous 'thou shalt not pass' trio to me.

If Allen is fit, I'd put him in midfield, otherwise I'd play Alberto there. I want to give Wisdom another chance. We could use another playmaker.
I'd keep Skrtel, add Agger if fit and stick Kolo at RB

I can totally see that happening too, Kolo - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique with Alberto in the hole.

I think (personally ) that Sterling is terrible defensively - positionally and in terms of man strength. He's a bit brainless. The further away from our goal he is the better. Wouldn't have him anywhere near wing back.

I think Allen (if fit) or Hendo playing in the hole is the way to go for this one. if its the latter then sterling should play on the right imo with toure at RB.

I don't reckon Alberto will be ready to be a starter this season.

Any idea when Allen is hoping to be back anyone? I'd be surprised if Alberto doesn't get starts considering we haven't got many who can play that role.

I'm not sure Alberto will start either. He scored a hat-trick yesterday, to took him about 40 minutes to get into the game, which is understandable. He did show some lovely touches though, and played a few lovely balls.

I'd be tempted with a similar formation to how we started the season with Moses replacing Coutinho on the left and possibly Sterling for Aspas on the right.

I’d then hopefully give Alberto 30 mins or so to see if he can make an impression.
