I'm really looking forward to this game. I do hope Sturridge gets a rest. We can partner Suarez and Aspas as I thought they looked decent together (albeit against Melbourne!).

Alberto should definitely get a chance. Sakho would actually make sense at left back as he can go toe to toe with Valencia.
    Was muß, das muß.

I would have shot Enrique after the Arsenal home match this time last year. He was diabolical and to be honest, throughout the rest of last season, i didn't think he was all that good. Poor defensively and not good enough from an attacking point of view to put a case for him to remain.

However, this season, i think he has done very well. Getting back to the form he showed when he first joined LFC....and as a consequence, he should keep his place on merit. To say that we should play him in the Capital One cup "to get rid of his poor form" is a silly one for me. We should play him - but because we want to win the game.

I think that Sakho could become Brendans El Hadji Diouf. Not good enough for the team, but a big outlay so he will want to play him as often as possible. For me, being honest, I really think that we dropped the ball by buying a £17m centre back when we are strong in that area - but needed an attacking midfielder. I think the money burned a hole in Rodgers / Ayre's pocket - because I don't think for a minute that had we been able to get the Mkhitaryan deal done, that we would have followed that up with the Sakho purchase.

We started the season very well defensively and for me had plenty in central defense in Agger, Toure and Skrtel. With Kelly and Wisdom as back ups.

To add Ilori for another £8m or whatever is just a bigger kick in the stones.

Getting back to the game, we don't have european football. We play Sunderland away but not until Sunday. We shouldn't really need to rotate the squad this early in the season and I hope that Rodgers plays his best 11 and really goes for it. The only person I wouldn't mind being given a rest is Sturridge - purely because he seems to have been running on a half full tank and didn't really have a pre-season. That said, it would still be tempting to have him in there when you look at the alternatives - Aspas isn't going to do much, Sterling looks like he has hit a wall in terms of developing (possibly used to his pay packet and believed his own hype) and Ibe could possibly be kicked out of the game if we played him.

It would be good to have a player to bring on that is capable of changing the game (when BR brought on Aspas and Sterling against Swansea, they were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard) so I would probably start with Suarez and Aspas and have Sturridge in the back pocket to bring on to get a late / extra time goal should we need it.

I think Gerrard needs the rest as much, if not more than Sturridge.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I think we're going to get a hammering Wednesday, I'm talking a 3 or 4-1 jobbie like they've just had.

I know this United team isn't the best but I still think they will be up for this more than us and we don't seem to be scoring much of late, having Suarez back is a boost mind but can't see us offering much in this one chaps.

Not looking forward to it really.

I took public transport to work today and enjoyed a leisurely stroll to the office. A pleasant September morning, a gentle breeze on my arms as I rolled my sleeves up, a blue sky visible and birds chirping.

A steady diary for today when I arrived in the office, no sickness, a full team and no major incidents occurring - this could be a pleasant day ...

Exactly right, Sakho will be 1st choice centre back, he's already better than we have

Sakho has been thrown in at the deep end, without match fitness in a new league and is learning a new language. I think the criticism coming towards him is unwarranted, over the top and downright stupid.

Reckon we might be playing three at the back...

A game too late, should have done this against Southampton as we clearly had no hope of playing correctly with 4 at the back. Lets hope it is 3 at the back this time.

3-5-2 or something similar would allow us to get Suarez tucked in off Sturridge.

Not a fan of 3 at the back, but until Johnson is back we may have to consider it and the cup is definitely the game to experiment.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

For a 3-5-2 to work, I would hope we would be overlooking Wisdom and considering Kelly.

Unless Ilori is up for the job and his pace can be utilised on the right side?
