    Suarez & Sturridge Partnership

I was quite impressed the potential that this partnership has shown in glimpses last season (the home game against Norwich in particular) and again this week against ManU & Sunderland. With injuries and in particular Suarez’s ban, the partnership has never really been given an extended run. But now hopefully with both players fit – iv got a feeling it will really start to bear fruit.

Not since the Fowler / Collymore days have we really had two quality forwards capable of hitting 20+ goals each. I know over the last 5 years or so it’s been very fashionable / continental for teams to play with the lone striker – but when both fit for me they both have to start.

Suarez seems to have got over the summer madness, I liked the way he went over to our fans at Stadium of Light and applauded them all after the match.

Barring injuries (or dare I say it suspensions) I can see these two hitting 40+ goals between them. If that’s the case then a top 4 stop is a massive possibility.

I was just wondering about everyone else’s thoughts on the partnership?

My thoughts are we should call them Suaridge, but then I decided that sounded **** (sewerage) so maybe not then.

    Cracking partnership so far tho.

It's an exciting one for sure, they both versatile but still weigh each other up, when Coutinho returns it will be interesting how that triangle works.

I think it'll be difficult to set the team up so we can get the best out of those three and still being solid at the back.
        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

It looks good - two inherently selfish players on the whole who look willing to pass and understand each other. The only question mark is how it will all work once Coutinho is back in the team. I think to play all three in a 4-3-3 we need to have two fit and on form fullbacks, specifically Johnson and Enrique, to help us keep the ball better and let the front 3 interchange and drift inside. Without that I can't see it working as well. The other option is obviously sticking with the current back three and replacing Moses with Coutinho - but I hope that isn't the plan.

The important thing is respect. Sturridge passed on passing to Aspas because I don't think the respect was there. Suarez was also noticeably looking for Sturridge.

I reckon we should try Coutinho as a "false" 9 with Stuarez either side.

                  -------------Mignolet-------------

                  Johnson -- Toure -- Sakho -- Enrique

                  ----Gerrard----Lucas----Hendo----

                  --Stuarez---Coutinho----Stuarez--

Solid at the back, Hendo in the middle to do Gerrard's running instead of Lucas (who has been donig it unsuccessfully so far) gives us the bodies to dominate possession, and those three up top...

Could have this partnership as far back as 2011 when Torres left/Suarez signed as shoulda made Sturridge part of the Torres deal! >

What will we call them when Coutinho comes back then? Suarcoutidge?
Rafa on Everton - "When you play against the smaller teams at Anfield you know the game will be narrow"

With Henderson and Gerrard alternating between holding alongside Lucas and supporting the attackers

Width to come from fullbacks and either of Henderson/Gerrard when needs be

i heard and read a lot about it might be a problem and that they wouldn't work together

bollocks - they managed a few games last season and looked great

and good players always want to play with good players. Yeah suarez/sturridge have at times looked greedy/tried to do a bit too much themselves however a) you want this from strikers and more importantly b) they've done this when 90% of the time they've been the only quality attacking presence in the final 3rd and probably felt they had to go alone.

i have zero worries about them playing together regardless of the system

I even heard some pundit and commentator suggesting that part of teh reason for the 3-5-2 was to accommodate them both

again not having that - it's because of lack of johnson/coutinho plus having a zillion centre halves and maybe to do with us only having 3 fit centre mids

when we revert to 4-3-3 - just because with sturridge/suarez, one will be shown on the sky tactics board as being in the middle and one on the wing doesn't mean thats where they will stay - they'll have license (and both have the intelligence) to swap/mix it up naturally throughout the game - there will be attacks where sturridge drops deep, suarez gets on the shoulder of the last man, then occassions where sturridge might start the move in the centre, but run wide to recieve a long ball down the line, and as a result suarez will run to the centre to get in the box etc etc
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

... is a thing of beauty. As individuals, they're already mighty players. When you add the two together, multiply it by a factor of awesome to get a formula of success.

Match of the Day showed them always looking for each other, in movement and in passes.
