The majority of our fixtures against the teams around us are at Anfield, so you've got to feel slightly confident. The Champions League kicking back in will see the teams above us starting to rest players whilst giving them something else to think about. Third and within, say, nine points of the Champions would be tremendous.

Does third secure Champions League qualification, with fourth having to go through the qualifiers?

Oh to be back in the CL, how I've missed those midweek games.

3rd is the automatic qualification I believe with 4th the qualifiers + it would ensure that the unthinkable happens we'd still be in it

As much as i dislike mourinhos antics, you haven to admire his managerial talent. In one season hes taken Chelsea to the top.

I can't stand Mourinho, but he is doing a fantastic job. I thought he might struggle second time around, but he is a superb manager who understands football. Chelsea are quietly plodding along gaining maximum points from most games and from what I've seen this season I think they will win the league. City will batter most teams, but keep dropping points unexpectedly as they did yesterday.

Really? There could be a 4 point gap again by tea time today and the midweek fixtures see Spurs travel to Newcastle and Man Utd travel to Arsenal which may put them 8 and 10 points behind us so effectively out of the race for 4th. That leaves just us and Everton as realistic candidates for 4th

Disagree about punching above our weight, the aim is to get back into the top 4 and so far based on this season we're well deserving of where we are in the league.

Mourinho is an excellent manager but it always helps when you've got the financial clout of Roman

The perception of our team...from non-LFC fans...is in my experience as good as its ever been in the modern era. A lot of us used to hate how little credit Rafa's great team got from outsiders...we were scoring lots of goals, winning constantly, hardly conceding, yet still called boring etc.....but there's none of that now. We still have doubts about the team/squad...natural kinda self-doubt...but the reaction of my mates....Spurs, United, Everton, City....they all think we're title contenders and laugh when I express any doubt about sewing up top 4. It's pretty refreshing to be liked and admired by everyone.

The match thread on RedCafe is a joy to behold.

Incredible strike, barely any backlift and hit sweet as a nut.
