Nah, if we drew at home to Swansea or lost to Southampton, I would think it’s just typical. I just have a feeling we’ll absolutely destroy Spurs, the game will be set up to suit us.

I’m also ‘assuming’ we’ll win every home game and at least draw every away, keeping us on course for 4th. That was I won’t get too annoyed when we have a repeat of WBA and then anything on top of that is a massive bonus.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I know what you're saying, but it's only when something is truly in your grasp that you really start to have some sort of hope and maybe even expectation or even assumption, and that's the time **** tends to hit the fan.

Saying that though, when Stevie thundered in that late pen, i did have a momentary thought that it was starting to feel like our 2005 CL run in.

edit: Go's without saying that hope your assumptions are correct though.

Well I am slightly concerned about the Swansea match. I turned down the option to go to the recent Everton and Arsenal matches in favour of Swansea, which were two of the best matches ever played at Anfield. It reminds me of last year when I passed on the Swansea match (5-0) and the Zenit match (as good an atmosphere since CL days) in favour of the West Brom game (beat 2-0).

If it happenens again, my gf is getting banned from Anfield for being a scud and I'll be selling her Newcastle ticket to the highest bidder.

It would be a miracle if we won it but even so sometimes I let myself daydream about us doing it. It would propel Brendan ahead of anything Rafa achieved. This could be the best opportunity in a generation. Chelsea, mancs, city all in transition. Arsenal stuck with Wenger. We will keep improving but the others will spend spend spend.

I hope that's a debate we need to have on here

To me premier league > champions league

I'm old school. I still think the champions league should only have champions in it. To win the premiership would be much bigger especially coming from 8th last year with a thin squad and a fraction of the spend of the others. For us to even be in the mix is a minor miracle.

Agree that winning the league this season would be a bigger and better achievement than Rafa's CL. Only just mind. Worth remembering that that was Rafa's first season and he had mostly a load of **** at his disposal, compared to this being Brendan's 2nd season and has a wonderful attacking team including Suarez who he inherited.

The prem is a long arduous body of work and that's why for me it would top Istanbul. What Rafa achieved was sensational but there was a large slice of having the luck go with us but that's ok and part of sport.

It's for that reason I'd edge it to the improbable event of us winning the league this season.

Though I think once you're an established and regular title challenger and CL participant, the CL becomes the harder of the two to win and the marginally greater achievement.

I think that if the time scales were flipped, then the Champions League would be the better to win in this situation.

But its been so long. I cant really remember it when it happened, so I am desperate for it.
                        *Except Michael, who died.

Rafa inherited a prime Gerrard, Hyypia and Carragher plus Hamann as well so while it may have been a thin squad it isn't quite as bad as some people make out after all they all had finished 4th just before Rafa arrived.
Rodgers on the other hand inherited a team that had finished 8th, couldn't score goals and was in relegation form, he's taken that and within 18 months we're title contenders and scoring goals at a rate not seen at this club in a very long time.

Well you could argue that Rodgers inherited one of the top 3 players in the world.

We all know it was Houllier who won us the CL, not Rafa.
                              Are we winning?

Suarez wasn't one the top 3 players in the world when Brendan arrived.
