We've won our last 5, so if we won every game to the end of the season that would be 14 straight wins to finish the season. Much as I'd love it to happen no-one puts together that sort of run. Only Arsenal have achieved 14 consecutive wins, and that was split over two seasons (end of one, start of another).

There's always the odd unlucky draw, even if you're playing brilliantly. And if Chelsea come to Anfield not needing the win then Mourinho will be using every negative trick in the book to get his nil-nil...

We must beat City, and probably need to beat Chelsea too, otherwise let's just keep going one game at a time and hoping that we slip up in fewer games than our rivals.

I get what you are saying, but you are implying that because we won those 5 games we have less of a chance statistically to win our next 9, so in a way you’d have been more confident if say we lost against United but were in the same position. That’s obviously nonsense though, those last 5 games won’t have an impact on the next 9 bar a positive one from giving us the confidence to go on and win more.

Records have been broken all season, but I still disagree that we need to win all our remaining games. People argued the same last week and lo and behold, Chelsea hit the first hurdle.

No, I was just pointing out that such a run would be unprecedented. History shows that teams usually drop points in the run in, regardless of how well they are playing or how "easy" or "difficult" their fixtures. I wasn't trying to make a statistical point - other than confidence and form the previous 5 don't affect the probability of the future 9, each game is an independent event.
