On his day, even at his age, Toure is a classy defender, lest we forget his fine defensive displays at the start of the season.

It's just not his day, for a big number of days now, at the moment. Skrtel and Toure as a pair are simply not clicking at all.

They are a really unsuited combination - especially at this point in Toures career. In a way I've been impressed that they have made it work as well as they have.

Felt like a game from the 08/09 season.

I'll start dreaming of the title once we've shaken Tottenham off which looks easier said than done at the minute.

Had that feeling in the build up to the game. Really felt it could be the catalyst for a good run of games. Was convinced we’d stuff them, but in the corresponding fixture this time of year in 08/09 we were losing 2-1 to Portsmouth with 5 mins to go, ended up winning 3-2 with an injury time winner from Torres.

To an extent -- and to their credit -- they have made it work, but it's just ill suited as you said. Toure looks so uncomfortable playing on the left, and they're prob too similar in style to sync.

Mignolet - grow a ****ing pair and comman just your 6 yard box would be nice....not asking you to be peter schmiechel and command the full penalty box, but at least take some control inside 6 ****ing yards. Also, someone somewhere at the club teach the lad to ****ing kick the ball. Work on his technique, get him doing leg weights in the gym or whatever, cause it's embarrasing that this bloke can't kick it

He's dreadful, isn't he? That 2nd goal is as much on him as it is on Skrtel being a clown. That was a terrible unnoticed error. Not confident with Mignolet going forward.

i don't blame skrtel at all - he had to do something, yeah could have done better, but mignolet's ****ed him over there.

iirc at the end of the first half there was another incident where he stayed rooted to his line, sucking his thumb and holding his blanky - it got cleared after a bit of scrap and i'm sure at half time as the players where going off you could see henderson and sturridge giving him **** for not dealing with it

I'm not sure about Mignolet as well. He needs to command his area much better than what he's doing right now. We were sat behind him in the second half last night and I couldn't really see him being authoritative enough when dealing with loose balls. Surely, this doesn't help our defence in general and the way we've been defending lately. He's a superb shot stopper, don't make me wrong, but he needs to improve on this.

The entire backline needs to shape up as a unit. Hopefully with the injuries clearing up, we can have a settled first-choice back four for this last tilt. A settled and commanding back four would help the Mig, and vice versa.

He's also completely useless coming off his line for deep through balls. Never does it even when he can. Puts a lot of unneccessary pressure on his defence in general.

He strikes me as the sort of keeper who's ideal for a lesser side that defends very deep and not an expansive attacking side.

I think we're deliberately gifting goals. We are poor at breaking down teams who park the bus so we pretend that our defence is ropey to give the opposition a sniff and encourage them to attack. Then we release the hounds. Kolo is perfect at playing the patsy, they don't suspect a thing. It's genius really.

The usual criticism of Mig I see. Flanagan was perfectly placed to clear the ball and he would have if he'd actually made his position known to Skrtel. Mignolet hasn't been faultless but the blaming of the keeper literally every time we concede through defensive errors (OG excluded) is laughable. He even got blamed for the Toure hospital pass last time. We have a back line of Cissokho (wank), Toure (wank), Skrtel (inconsistent) and Flanagan (still learning). Ray Clemence would have looked shaky behind that lot.

It would. My fear is he would unsettle a settled defence.
