I was a bit joking. But Reina isn't what he was 4/5 years ago unfortunately. Think Mignolet has been better this season than Reina was last.

His days are numbered sadly. So I just hope we get decent wedge for him.
    *Except Michael, who died.

There is plenty of doubt about it Nigey.

Enough doubt, in fact, to suggest that no Nigey, no; Reina is NOT the better keeper.

He categorically WAS the better keeper, but you can't shorten "Reina was" to "Reina's" - http://learnenglish.britishcouncil.o...rbs/past-tense

Ta. Did I imagine it or did our Rafa years keeper coach (who's name escapes me, tip o the tongue) go to Napoli also? We used his absence as a catalyst for Reina's drop in form
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

So all in all, comparing it to Mignolet's clangers and weaknesses, who do you think is the better keeper?
        Are we winning?

Valero? Yeah he went to Napoli with Rafa though when Reina saved Balotelli's penalty Rafa praised the goalie coach and said he was also responsible for Istanbul but Valero wasnt with us then so god knows if he's got a different role or not and someone else is coaching Reina.

            Disagree mate.

Pepe's distribution over Mignolet - Better, much better
Pepe's commanding of his area over Mignolet - Better
Pepe's shot stopping over Mignolet - Lately not as good

So, I think Pepe is marginally the better keeper. Mignolet is young, so he can improve. But he needs to improve quick.

I'm still not sure Mignolet's form is down to an unsettled defence as well. He was still hesitant and poor on crosses at the beginning of the season.

Reina would have loved our new counter attacking style this year. Think the short pass, possession game hindered him somewhat last season, he looked frustrated at times.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He would have hated the lack of protection from our centre backs though.

I think the memory of Reina and how important he was in the peak Rafa team is what persists for most Liverpool fans, not the often calamitous and unreactive keeper we saw in his last 18 months. The amount of times he was beaten at his near post wasn't bad luck, it was bad keeping. The amount of times he'd stand and do that incredulous "how did that get past me" routine became far too familair. He was past his peak, it wasn't coming back. They moved him on at the right time. I don't think Mignolet will ever be as good as Pepe was at his best, but the recruitment team signed a keeper who can get better over the next few years, not worse.

I ****ing hate this patronising argument with so many on here. (TBF, yours was less insulting, but sadly the one I quoted )

I fully remember the mistakes Reina made, but as a complete package I think he made up for them, even in his last couple of years. I also see no reason why he may not have got back close to his best, as he showed signs of towards the end of last season. People talk about him as if he is 40 and completely past it.

It won't make any difference, he won't be back, but this argument that only a select few can remember the mistakes Reina made and therefore excuse any Mignolet makes doesn't hold for me.

Now Reina and Mignolet as our two keepers isn't a bad shout

Really wasn't attempting to be patronising. Its not so much I was saying "I remember, but you don't!" - it was more along the lines of coloured opinions that have been formed during a really strong period of performance is a pretty forgiving place for the person in question.

Reina is still 31 (or 32) ffs. Hardly old and past it for a keeper.

I know, yours was a bad example to use and I do admit there is definitely a certain aspect of that with Pepe.

Not sure why I bit today, because I've been trying to avoid the subject, but it is annoying reading about 'rose tinted glasses' and 'rewriting history', when the accusers are doing exactly the same in the opposite way by exaggerating Pepe's mistakes and shortcomings and downplaying our defensive record with him in nets.

                              @ Nigey

Age wise maybe, but his form would suggest otherwise. There's was a downward trend in his performance level over a sustained period - he wasn't going to get better and improve. That period had been and gone.

You'll never win an argument about form or being past it if your bringing basic numerics of age though Nigey. Owen should have been a peak player at 28, but he was shot. Torres was past his peak at 27, Fowler was past his peak by his mid 20's.

TBF, all them players had one thing in common.
