I also think that Brendan and the rest of the comittee probably looked at the fact that Reina every so often came out with the whole "i will stay at LFC till Barca want me routine" every now and again....

I think what happened in general is that Pep signed a 6 year deal, shortly afterwards Rafa left and the team took a skydive and i syspect that a. He regretted comitting to a **** team with hodgson as a manager and then b. His commitment and as a consequence focus dropped maybe 5 to 10%

With regard to Jones, i personally think he is terrible. Id much prefer if we either had a young hotshot who fancied himself to displace Mignolet or we signed a Schwartzer / Given / harper type goalie as a back up - someone experienced in big games who will keep a calm head and be happy enough as a back up. We are all surprised that Jones didnt **** up too much but there is no way he is goid enough for LFC. If he was, then he wouldnt be happy as a bench boy - thered have been some prem team give him first team footy by now. He is ****e.

Age wise maybe, but his form would suggest otherwise. There's was a downward trend in his performance level over a sustained period - he wasn't going to get better and improve. That period had been and gone.

You'll never win an argument about form or being past it if your bringing basic numerics of age though Nigey. Owen should have been a peak player at 28, but he was shot. Torres was past his peak at 27, Fowler was past his peak by his mid 20's.
Well, I am arguing that Reina was still overall a better keeper than Mignolet. But certainly, Mignolet can still improve and maybe Reina won't ever get back to his level, but we could argue ad infinitum over that.
      Are we winning?

Lets do it. Mignolet is a better prospect than Reina because Mig's best days are in the future, whereas Pepe's were at the back end of the last decade.

No sympathy for Arsenal against Bayern. Arsenal fans/media weren't interested in our domination - just the result. Well the result last night was 0-2 despite the 'magical' first 20 minutes. What goes around, came around.

Mignolet over Reina for me. Yes he's had a rough patch but overall he's saved us FAR more points this season with some jaw-droppingly good saves than he's lost us with a handful of clangers. With Reina in goal it feels like every half-decent shot is going to go in.

I notice Reina has lost his place in the Napoli team now too. And that's with Rafa as manager. Hardly a ringing endorsement.

He has some clear areas he needs to improve on but even as things stands now I'd pick him over Pepe. We made the right choice (although I'd still have preferred Begovic ).

I too prefer mignolet to pepe. The wages saved also allows for spending elsewhere which is a bonus.

What happened to Pepe's ability to save pelanties, it just seemed to evaporate.

His days are numbered sadly. So I just hope we get decent wedge for him.
sorry Nigey but no he's not anymore. The mark1 Pepe was better than the current Mig but not now.

                      Agree.

Pepe retained certain assets that Mignolet clearly doesn't have, but the first priority for a keeper is class shot stopping. Mignolet comes out on too there by some way. Whilst Pepe could have recaptured some of his old form, he hasn't seemed to have yet. Mignolet does have an opportunity to improve his weaknesses too. The potential for that is neither here or there for me - whilst Mignolet has not been as brilliant as we'd have liked, his assets have him clearly ahead of Pepe NOW. As much as I love Pepe I can't see a reason to have faith in instead.

If people want to criticise not choosing a different replacement I'm more amenable to the argument. I just don't buy that the direct comparison leaves us worse off. At all. Hope that makes sense, have had a few!

When keepers go they go, you have to get shot; a fresh start is best for them and the club. Dudek was supposed to be one of the best keepers in the world until Forlan gave him the yips. Wish them the best and make a good choice of getting someone else in.

Mignolet has had a good first season so far. Hit a few bumps in the road but has also made far far more saves that really he had no right to save. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Distribution from the keeper is an over-rated skill imo. Certainly in this current LFC squad where we aren't that tall up top or especially good in the air. His tendency to punch rather than catch all the time can be worrying for the heart at times, but its hardly a major cause for our conceded goals. I'd rather he punch if there is even a 1% chance in his mind that he can't catch it securely. He is 26, still can have another good 10 yrs in him easily, young for a goalkeeper and hence plenty of potential for improvement.

Reina needed a change. I'm glad we have Mig now.

would never have guessed you'd had a few judging by your eloquent explanation.

Nigey on the other hand must be sloshed.
